Manchester Uni Covid positive parties

Sure this is a joke!

“There was a flat party a few days ago which had a policy that you could only get in if you were positive. It was like their health-and-safety measure,” the 18-year-old physics student said.

Had security not arrived it could have been a big party. According to David Regan, Manchester’s director of public health, the incidence rate in the city’s 17-21 undergraduate age group is now 2,935 for every 100,000 people – almost six times higher than the rest of Manchester, which itself now has the highest rate in the UK.

I think it's outrageous they've been asked to go to the halls knowing the current situation, I think it's bad for their mental health that they will be asked to quarantine fo 2 weeks. but this is a consequence of things like this party! a covid positive party? seriously what is people thinking on?

I've lost faith in people.

If everyone is covid positive then they already have to quarantine they are hardly spreading it if they all already have it😂!

More seriously I do get your point but it was perhaps a pretty inevitable consequence of locking a bunch of 20 somethings up together for two weeks with no real help to prevent virus spread amongst them from what I can tell! If as society we did so little to prevent virus spread in student accommodation I am not sure we can expect students to take measures seriously when the virus is already there, they are already locked down and it’s already spreading hugely amongst them. I am not sure now is the time to shout at them for not taking enough precautions really!

I think I'm More surprised at the "2,935 for every 100,000 people "

what should have society done to prevent the virus to spread in student accommodations (apart from not sending them there) , cuz I dont think it's societies fault but each persons and what have they done many times.

those that are covid positive should be self isolating, for going to that party they've left their placed and I'm sure won't have taken 100% measurements not to infect others on their way ... so yes the party might be covid free but not the walk there.

Re: the party, I think it'll affect badly at the rest of students or Manchester, if because of these parties numbers keep going up extra measurements will be taken by the government to stop the spread.

I'm from Spain, there is a private high school that has had these parties, the numbers have gone up, as they're next to a university , this has started affecting the uni which has had to shut down. I think blaming the society is easy when we dont take responsibility ourself of our own actions which will have repercussions in others
