Covid

Has anyone been told the circuit breaker two week half term is happening?

We’re in the south east and it seems like my children’s primary school are telling the children they’ll be working from home in a few weeks and they’ll need to wear their school uniform. A letter will be sent out apparently.

Is it a done deal? I thought this was stuff that was just being discussed and not confirmed.

Every without covid winter hits the NHS.

I think it's pretty obvious we won't survive winter and covid, together... All they could do is a full lock down soon, to lower rates for deep winter.
I bet those at the top are capping themselves. They can't handle covid in good times...

Yes our dc schools has been told to prepare for on line learning

All sorts of organisations are preparing for all sort of things that may or may not ever happen.

At the start of lockdown we had a message from the LA warning us that our school hall may be used as a makeshift mortuary. Thankfully that never happened but the plans were there if it was needed.

Surely it's clear that:

  1. No firm decisions have been made as yet.

  1. Things are getting worse, so even if the intention has been to keep schools open this may have to change.

  1. Due to point 2. schools need to prepare for remote learning. Those that didn't adapt last academic year have the most work to do on this. No it's not ideal, yes it's a PItA, yes some children will struggle to learn from home- but that not withstanding some sort of effort at providing an education is preferable to nothing.

  1. Rumours are flying, kids are gullible- and so OP's child has got caught up in the rumour mill.

@HerkyBaby

Very likely is what I’ve heard plus an extended Christmas break after the 25th just in case visiting relatives infect anyone. Planning for minimum 2 weeks at half term and 4 at Christmas

Where did you hear this?

I've not heard anything like this fromDC. Could you ask the teacher?

Teachers don't know. We found out about shutting in March at the same time as everyone else - the press conference.

It has been made the law that schools have to provide for remote learning 'immediately' for situations where children are absent due to covid. We need to know who can't access stuff online etc.

I'll be pissed off if I don't get to go on holiday at half term, it's been a shitter of a term.

I'm a primary school governor and spent yesterday with our head, an external advisor and the local secondary head. Nothing on the cards apart from being able to meet the gov requirement to continue the curriculum if absence is due to government guidance from 22nd October. Availability of devices is the limiting factor for us but we don't think we'll need to close until we get to 'as yet unnamed tiers'. Secondary more likely to close at tier 3/4 and DH as a secondary teacher has a plan for that.

Teachers know nothing. They are though, really enjoying dealing with poor behaviour, planning and teaching lessons in non subject rooms, doing a couple of covers a week, setting work for absent colleagues and setting appropriate work.for each of the isolating students across 7 classes. They particularly enjoy students coming back.after 2 weeks admitting to.not bothering to do the work, but complaining that they can't keep.up cos they were off.

You can ask but they'll almost certainly just shrug and say "I don't know what's going to happen".

@EvaHoffman

These threads are driving me bonkers!

There IS NO SECRET INFORMATION! Teachers don't have a clue. Why would they know anything more than anyone else?

I can't stand this idea that 'they' know what is happening and they might communicate it to the inner circle. It doesn't work like that. The government is deciding more or less from day to day in response to statistics. There was no secret meeting where teachers and the other elite (ha ha) were told what is happening at half term but told not to tell the little folk.

If you really think that there is a big plan that ordinary people are excluded from and that teachers know what the big plan is then you are the type of person who would fall for YouTube conspiracies.

What are these YouTube conspiracies you speak of....

Agree that teachers won’t know before ordinary folk though - the government has already proven that they have no understanding of why teachers could achieve with time and consulatation.

Agree with previous posters that it is because schools have to legally provide quality remote learning from 22nd October. This includes for students who are self isolating so it's not just in case of any future lockdown it's to provide for those at home while the rest are in school. I hunk schools will remain pretty much open come what may!
