I’m aware that the touching surfaces thing isn’t as much of an issue as we once thought it might be with Covid but I’m not comfortable using the toilet if its not my own and many places have closed their facilities anyway so what do people do on their days out regarding this?

Pet8 · 07/10/2020 12:59

No. Not once. I don't drive and there aren't even any parks in walking distance. Bus service here are unreliable and was worried about toilets and cafes being shut.

froggygoneacourting · 07/10/2020 13:01

I've been on lots of 'day trips' around my local area, mainly long walks, but not trips involving travelling out of area.

Spanielmadness · 07/10/2020 13:05

@Pachonga almost all public toilets are open now, as are those in cafes, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets etc. If you’re out in the middle of nowhere, do what you’d do anyway - pee in a bush!

Blurp · 07/10/2020 13:11

We haven't had day trips, if you mean places with organised admission etc (zoos, NT etc). We have a beach about half an hour away, so we've been there a couple of times.

Viv0321 · 07/10/2020 13:28

Yes I mean places with organised admission.

I haven't been to day trips to places with organised admission, e.g. galleries, gardens, stately homes, museums. Its mainly because I live by myself and most of them now only allow bookings by household bubble, so I'd have to go by myself, which takes away a lot of the fun of it - in the past I would have met up with a friend. Same with those theatres and cinemas that are now re-opening (actually that's slightly worse as most of them have sorted out seating plans with fixed seats for groups of 4, 3, 2 or 1. And there aren't many 1s).

Most attractions and parks have toilets open and I use them, just wash my hands afterwards as I normally would. But during lockdown I spent 5 hours daily walking around parks and gardens so I just learned to not drink before going out or during the walk, and didn't need a toilet break.
Pachonga · 07/10/2020 13:54

Ah ok. I’m overseas where there aren’t that many public toilets anyway, and ones in stores aren’t generally open. Restaurants and cafes have only just opened for indoor dining and I’m not ready to do that anyway.

I have drove through the Blackpool illuminations but never got out of the car it took over a hour to get through but haven't been any where other then shopping and walks local. My 16 year old daughter suggested it she just wanted to go some where.

Yes I mean places with organised admission.

Guess us then - we usually do fair few over 6 months.

Local cinerma, swimming, theaters haven't opened back up, local musums and art gallery are closed. Local cafe is still take out only - though walked past another local cafe which has outdoor seating on the grounds and it looks like there were serving outside.

Local libraries and swimming lessons have only just re-opened not that either really affects us at minute. Local firework displays and pantos have already been cancelled.

We have done one day trip on train to nearby city with beach and walked to and from nearest town in summer.

We're in local lockdown and can't even do that now.

Scarby9 · 07/10/2020 15:37

@herecomesthesun
You are absolutely right that my friend's worry is about bringing the virus back to her parents.
But they will now sit and chat with me in the garden, then with their greatgrandchildren, then the next door neighbours... My friend seems to have deveoped this idea that standing inside her gate is safe but a step outside is dangerous, unless is medically required. That's what worries me.

Randomword235 · 07/10/2020 16:14

I've done nothing that involves, masks screens or distancing.
So no trips to attractions or beaches (or shops or pubs etc) .
I have walked in deserted parts of our localish national park.
I won't start doing anything again until masks, distancing and screens are a thing of the past. If that is never so be it, I've got hobbies I can do here.

shinynewapple2020 · 07/10/2020 16:33

@Scarby9 I have a friend similar to your friend ; she is in her 50s but lives with her elderly mother . She works from home whilst caring for her mum and hasn't left the house since March nor has she had a visitor apart from the district nurse

We've only been to a couple of places with organised admission . The zoo when it first opened and sea life centre as part of a holiday . We've also done indoor mini golf and bowling but these weren't really day trips . Have been on 4 UK holidays / mini breaks and had a few days out to countryside, walking and for meals .

I think it's tough on people who don't have their own transport

ApplestheHare · 07/10/2020 16:36

We haven't. Hadn't thought about it until now, but possibly because we do lots of walks, horse riding, running etc. anyway so it's not been too hard to entertain the kids.

SunbathingDragon · 07/10/2020 16:37

We haven’t. Our kids are happy enough in the forests and nature reserves we are lucky enough to have nearby, so just sticking with those for now.

starfish4 · 07/10/2020 16:43

I was talking to a friend about this earlier. Neither of us have the desire to go that far now. We have done day trips here, shopping outlet, a country village and riverside walk, all in our county. Have to say we're very lucky though as we have a reasonable amount of shops for a village, and 10 mins walk, a variety of walks so we sometimes take a sandwich and enjoy the view.

Viv0321 · 07/10/2020 17:05

Yes kids are just as happy in nature

OP posts:
Redcrayons · 07/10/2020 17:14

Not really. Combination of being cautious with money because of furlough and older teens who don’t really want to do day trips. We’ve been out for lunch a few times, met up with family and we were going for walks locally at the beginning.

Looking back I feel like I wasted all that time really.

Tootsey11 · 07/10/2020 17:15

Me and Dp. We have only been to the shops and work since March. My mother has not left the house since March.

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 07/10/2020 17:22

We haven't had day trips. I'm wary of using public loos, I'm disabled.

We've had weekly mornings or afternoons out visiting National Trust or English Heritage places as well as parks and gardens. If they seem too crowded we don't linger but we've been lucky so far, people are very good about distancing.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/10/2020 17:29

Been nowhere - day trips look like such a faff, was put off by all the loos being closed in summer Shock

But going on holiday end of the month (in this country)

cologne4711 · 07/10/2020 18:02

I started swimming again about six weeks ago, which is an indoor activity but other than that haven't done much. Two visits to my mum and a bit of "touristy" things like walks etc. A few meals out - mainly outside, a couple inside. My main social outlet is meeting up with friends for a run and talking to people at swimming.

PennyDreadfuI · 07/10/2020 18:35

Me. I haven't been anywhere apart from supermarkets since March. I don't drive so public transport is the only option to get anywhere - for a lot of this year it's been essential journeys only (local lockdown area) and even when it wasn't I didn't fancy my chances.

I did go on a half hour bus journey to a different town to do a bit of shopping for a change in August when cases were vanishingly low - not a day trip but it was absolute heaven to go somewhere different for a couple of hours. Goodness knows when I'll be able to again. I'm going slowly loopy.

IndiaMay · 07/10/2020 19:14

Surely these people arent real. Never doing anything is bizarre. Just wear a mask and crack on!
