Could Trump’s “macho” response to his Covid illness backfire?!

He seemed clearly out of breath last night in his balcony... I wonder if the steroids he’s been pumped with, that lower his immune system, put him at risk of deteriorating? Especially as the danger point is a week into infection?

I’m guessing it’s “double or quits” for him. He’s down in the polls so thinks he has to pull off this shit. If he does deteriorate, he likely won’t admit it until he’s really bad. I have a feeling we’ve not seen the end of Trump’s personal Covid battle.

He's probably gone straight from there to the medical facility in the White House which has probably been upgraded at warp speed while he was in hospital so he can have the optics of being "back at the White House" while still getting treated.

frozendaisy · 06/10/2020 14:26

I'm sure he is in the best medical hands, let's hope his brush with Covid-19 amounts to policies that allows his population to have similar treatment.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 06/10/2020 14:29

Well he's basically gone from one hospital to another, so nobody should believe that him leaving WR means much at all.

Politically it's fucked him - even Republican voters are saying his handling of COVID has been poor. He's a super spreader whose actions could potentially kill a number of innocent people.

I'll keep my fingers crossed until it's all over though. I don't believe he'll go without a fight, no matter what the vote count looks like.

Isn't that up to each individual state?
amicissimma · 06/10/2020 14:32

Like all matters Trump, probably his supporters will keep supporting him, his haters will keep hating him and the undecideds will wait until just before the election and consider a lot of factors, not least the most recent.

I'm not sure that he is a superspreader. I thought they'd identified someone as the source for that outbreak?

TheMostHappy · 06/10/2020 14:34

I'm a bit perplexed by it all. If it is indeed the case that he's still receiving fairly intense treatment back at the WH, then him parading around telling the population not to be afraid and get back out there is monumentally irresponsible and places him even higher on the ranks of the arsehole of the century super league ((of which he was already pretty high up on in my estimation)).

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 06/10/2020 14:35

He travelled to other states to attend an indoor event with a buffet while knowing he was positive. Everyone he travelled with. Everyone in that room. They should all now isolate but the WH has told the CDC not to track and trace.

He's literally willing for people to die so he can look strong. If he isn't a super spreader I don't know who is!

How is that perplexing, it's the same Trump we've had since he started running for President. It's 100% on brand.

@TheMostHappy
I think you've summed it up very well there!

It could very well backfire on him, medically anyway

lljkk · 06/10/2020 14:56

There was a terrific doctor on radio in middle of night talking about how the steroids he's on (esp. large doses) leave a person with a terrific buzz, eurphoria is completely normal. But may be irrelevant at early covid stage to preventing severe disease. She said he probably does feel like a million bucks right now. The side effects can be severe, so the political theatre has barely begun.

TheMostHappy · 06/10/2020 15:15

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel it's perplexing because I'm in two minds about whether he's actually had COVID or not. Is it bluster to make him look macho and get him out of a few key events? I think it's the age old of not being able to believe anything that comes out of his mouth, that's what I find perplexing.

I agree.

There was hubris when BJ first contracted Covid. Then he seemed humbled when it took a turn for the worst. Now...we're back to "fighting" talk 🤥

It feels like a dick waving contest and I'm fed up of this macho theatre.

newdaynewfarce · 06/10/2020 15:29

Trump has made a total mockery of the American presidency. He is even worse than BoJo, our very own mini-Trump

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/10/2020 15:33

He's peaked early thinking he's beaten it, that's all I'll say.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 06/10/2020 16:06

I think it's very likely he does have it, given that he's one of around 30 known cases from the ACB event.

My worry is that he becomes even more dismissive of coronavirus because after all, he had it and was strong enough to survive, so fuck those who weren't tough enough.

EasternDailyStress · 06/10/2020 16:08

It's all fake news. He hasn't got it at all, and is just after sympathy votes.

This is very much what I think. It's very early days - even if he was diagnosed earlier than they are admitting. In which case, not resting now is going to make things worse later on.

Even from his point of view (were he rational, which he is not) this is dumb. If he's hospitalised or put out of action again, it will be even further along in the presidential race, and much more damaging.

He won't get them by rushing back to work and pretending he's fine though will he Confused
