Have a number of family members 60 to 70 years old mum and dad similar ages large families.
It seems like those under 66 the current pension age are being left to get on with things. Over 66 retired first in line for flu jabs first in line for the corona jab, can stay at home easier as money coming in.
60 to 66 expected to be at work if they leave have to apply for UC but judged to have left voluntarily then it will be refused.
No flu jabs available covid jabs after the older people have had theirs.
The statistics show that over the age of 60 the covid risks increase but the 65 year olds seemed to just be lumped in with the over 50s as moderate risk.
Just a moan really nothing I can do but advise them to be careful which they are.

Yes, we've found this. I'm nearly 60. I took early retirement from a very stressful school-based job but next month I will be spending 3 weeks, 6 hours a day in a hall filled with 200 16-year-olds, running mock exams. I will be wearing a mask but none of them will be and I will have to get up close to any students who have queries during the exam as we will both be whispering!

I have spent all morning trying to source a flu jab but apparently I can't get one. My local pharmacies aren't offering any appointments. I rang my GP for advice, even offered to pay but all they said was that they could only offer to over 65s and they had no further suggestions if i couldn't get one at a local pharmacy. I have even tried 3 places which are offering private appointments (some of them quite a drive away) but they are also saying no appointments available. So I guess I'll just have to take my chances then!

The flu jab situation is complicated by the fact that a different vaccine is given to over 65s as they react differently. So sometimes the 'younger' one is in short supply and sometimes the 'older' one.

It would be great if there were enough for everyone. It's not as if we don't offer flu jabs every year. Although the frequent poor uptake might muddy the waters.
