Hello,

Sorry about the weird title, I'm just a bit I guess confused - I live in the NW and we're a really high risk area but I don't know anyone personally who has had covid and out of our joint 800+ friends on Facebook no one has mentioned having covid (I know they may not put it on fb but people do tend to haha) and I just thought if our area was so high risk then you'd think you'd know someone who had it (don't get me wrong completely thankful I haven't had it or anyone I know has had it but it just seems odd) I'm still taking the risk very seriously and following guidance but I was wondering if you've had covid19 and what your experience was? (Or someone in the immediate family) you don't have to live in the NW or anything.

Please can we keep it to you personally having covid (or someone in immediate family) as I think these threads can very easily turn into "my grandmas best friends dogs previous owner had covid"

Pretty certain I had it in Feb (Londoner).

Started off like mild flu. Temp over 100F, muscle aches, headache, feeling rubbish. Was in bed for several days - kept feeling like I could get up but then had to go straight back because of fatigue. A few days in started coughing up extremely sticky phlegm.

Felt completely better by end of the week, then suddenly became extremely breathless about 7 days after first becoming ill. GP sent me to hospital, hospital didn't know what to do with me as they couldn't test me (could only test people with links ot China at that point). So they tested me for blood clots and then discharged me. Spent a couple of weeks sitting very still to get over breathlessness.

Throughout this had a terrible cough which lasted ~6 weeks, then lungs felt like they were on fire for about 6 months. The fatigue was really acute for about a month afterwards and has gradually got better with mild exercise over the last 8 months.

Meant to add that a relative died from it - she was disabled and in a care home.

I have covid now. I tested positive on friday and i'm definitely one of the lucky ones. I have a cough but it's not really bad. I had a bit of a fever wednesday morning that lasted until around dinner time (which is the reason I was tested). I haven't lost taste/smell but things taste "different". I'm still working (from home) and doing housework and such.

damselindedress · 12/10/2020 08:42

I had it in April. It started with fatigue and a low grade fever, then a dry cough and then really bad headaches.

I felt like crap for two weeks was exhausted, off my food and mainly in bed or on the sofa and I then had another week of continuing fatigue as I got better.

My sense of smell went all of a sudden one day and it's not come back completely I can smell some things and not others. My sense of taste has also changed and certain things now taste very odd.

WhyNittyBitty · 31/10/2020 21:12

I tested positive 4 weeks ago. Luckily only very mild; body aches, headache and smell and taste disappeared. Family member suffered badly and had to have paramedics out a few times.

fightingSmiths · 04/04/2021 18:53

in the NW. Not had Covid but in my small stress (25 Houses and a couple of flats), about 15 people that I know of had it. Some mild, some on hospital but all recovered. My NDN though doesn't have her taste yet back (5 months on). I also know 3 people who in passed away. 2 elderly but one was my friends brother. Fit and well and in his 40s.

Bit surprised that you don't know anyone at all.

fightingSmiths · 04/04/2021 18:54

argh, should proof read. Small street, not stress

bumblingbovine49 · 04/04/2021 19:00

I can't answer this at the moment but might be able to soon. Currently isolating as DS (16) tested positive 4 days ago. He has a cough for a morning and no other symptoms apart from being very tearful depressed and feeling hopeless for about a week beforehand. He also lost his appetite for a few days .A few days after testing positive He seems much happier now with no other symptoms at all as far as I can see .

LEMtheoriginal · 04/04/2021 19:28

Most of the people i know have had covid. Ive had it and it was fucking awful. 3 weeks over Christmas. Totally wiped me out and i still dont feel right. My breathing was ok but i was worried about DP as his lips kept going pale. He refused a dr. Dd2 (15) had it and was wiped out and only got out of bed to eat and toilet for two weeks.

I know of people with permanent heart issues (that required surgery) and DP was talking to someone left with permanent neurological issues due to such a high temp.

Its an insidious disease.

I had my first AZ vaccine last week and i still dont feel right. My anxiety is through the roof and i wish i had waited.Sad

Experiences may vary...

My aunt died of it after a week in ICU. My uncle is slowly recovering - he was intubated and in ICU before Christmas for a week or so, he’s out now and at home but still exhausted and breathless. Both in their seventies, both in Northern Ireland.

18 year old cousin had it, said it was like a hangover for a few days, nothing more.

28 year old colleague who whom I’m very close had it, she’s still suffering from severe fatigue more than 6 months on.

DeusEx · 04/04/2021 19:53

Possibly you know people who have had it now OP. Many colleagues, friends, and family members of colleagues and friends have had it now. I can think immediately of half a dozen deaths. Mostly elderly people.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 04/04/2021 19:57

Im in Yorkshire. I had it positive test but no cough or temp. Just felt very tired and run down. For about a week. My mum had it and was quite poorly for about 6 weeks and is suffering with side effects nearly 11 months later. My step dad had it (from my mum) and had a sniffle and cough for one day and was fine. 🤷‍♀️

HolmeH · 04/04/2021 19:59

Yorkshire here, had it in December. I’ve had worse colds, the weird exhaustion was the worst bit really. In normal times, I’d have continued to go to work etc. My 9 month old had it also, here presented like a really heavy cold.. DD1 & OH didn’t catch it.

I know a few others. One family who all had it, the two adults felt horrendous. Bed ridden, severe fevers, coughs & upset stomachs. Their two kids had it mildly. Another friend was also pretty poorly but no cough. Still can’t smell properly. But neither her husband or son caught it. They didn’t isolate from each other (young kid). They both tested twice during the 14 day period and negative. And then I know two other families were if was a mild cold & they all had it. And finally my Granny, who died with covid in my opinion. She was 89 & in hospital after a stroke. We were warned she wouldn’t wake up again & the end was very near. She tested negative on arrival but positive three days later. She died on day 5. It was recorded as a COVID death which we were not happy with. She died of a stroke. And sadly her weak body caught covid. We wanted her death to be accurate but the doctor said because she was positive, he had no choice 😣🤷🏼‍♀️ But anyway, there we go. I miss her but she had a long & happy life 💛

Abraxan · 05/04/2021 20:37

I'm cv and had it in October.

The classic 3 symptoms - Slightly raised temperature for a very brief time one day. Cough was more like clearing your throat, though fairly frequently. Slightly altered taste - metallic taste. Cough lasted a few days.

Worst physical symptoms - tight chest, breathing issues, chest pains and aches, fatigue

Major complication (can't guarantee it was covid though Gp and hospital consultant believe it was caused by covid as didn't have any issues before) - massively high blood pressure which didn't come down. Involved being rushed to a and e and hospital admission. Felt pretty scary saying goodbye to dh, as he couldn't come with me, having just been told I had a very real risk of having a heart attack or stroke, or blood clots forming. It's taken 5.5 months to get to the point where my blood pressure is now 'normal' but only due to 2 fairly decent dosages of 2 blood pressure meds which I will probably need to take for life.

Side effect - not allowed to take arthritis medication when I was ill so had a massive flare up causing large amounts of pain, eventually managed to reduce with steroid injections after 3 months.

Long covid symptoms - fatigue, brain fog, chest aches and tightness, increase in missed heartbeats

Ended up off work for 7 weeks, though went back before I was ready really, in hindsight.

That was classed as a moderate case.

75% of my colleagues had covid. No others were in hospital. Some were ill enough to be bed bound for several days. Some had very few symptoms that didn't cause them any issues. One other needed longer than 10 days off work - she was off an extra week iirr.

No other family or friends have tested positive.

Abraxan · 05/04/2021 20:43

I've just seen this is an old post and I posted on here about 10 days before I tested positive.

Dh and Dd both never caught it, didn't get any symptoms and neither have ever tested positive before, during or since, despite being in close contact with me throughout.

It went through school and it's where I most likely caught it. And where I most likely passed it to other colleagues, via the children possibly.

I may have passed it to a friend who I ate a meal with a few days before testing positive, all within the rules. She tested negative despite having lots of the symptoms and having ongoing issues similar to,long covid. Her doctor thinks she tested too early.

Interesting - my uncle was in a care home, recovering from a bad fall - he was almost ready to go home again, when he caught covid and it knocked him for six - never recovered from it, but because he didn't actually die until 30 days after the test, covid DIDN'T go down on the death certificate.
alpenguin · 05/04/2021 21:03

I’ve had it twice. First time I was in so much pain I was begging to die. The acute respiratory part didn’t last too long in but breathlessness and palpitations lasted 8 months with sats still dropping to the 80s randomly even now. I probably should have gone to hospital
But it was first Lockdown and nobody wanted to know . Fatigue still ongoing. I got long covid and then I caught the bloody virus again almost exactly a year to the day of the first time. I got it From my preschool age child (they don’t spread it my arse!) I’d had my first vaccination so it wasn’t as bad as first time and took three weeks to clear up with as far as I can tell no residual symptoms. It was identical to first symptoms wise but less severe.

I’ve lost four relatives, not all old, to the disease. I know quite a few who had it and were a symptomatic or really mild (and mine was allegedly mild!)

The worst part for the younger people was the ageing. Even months later they look so tired and with sunken eyes and they had it mild. I aged about 5 years visually

Cowmilk · 05/04/2021 21:06

I had a weak persistent cough. I would have preferred a much more efficient cough.

I had a one day sore throat and got breathless easily.

Food gave me stomach cramps and my appetite was lost for two months. I lost so much weight and was able to fit into my wedding dress 🙌 (staying at home is boring and I reminisced over old clothes (lot of things have happened since my wedding nearly a decade ago)).
