Lockdown madness

Stabbitha · 05/10/2020 09:24

I know this is unusual and it's due to my location but I find this nuts.

I live a mile over the English/ Welsh border. My nearest town in Chester.

I'm under local lockdown, not allowed to leave the county.

Chester, a mile away is out of bounds, I have to travel 3 in the other direction to go the shop.

Its frustrating.

Are there people (Army etc) at the border physically stopping you?

FatGirlShrinking · 05/10/2020 09:32

It does feel that way but there has to be a boundary somewhere. I'm in Leicester, the city boundary is at the end of my road.

Up until mid August, I wasn't allowed to walk that way and cross the boundary unless it was for essential travel reasons. At one point non-essential shops opened outside the city but not inside the city, I was allowed to walk past those shops to get to the park but not supposed to go in them unless burning food or medicine.

Rushjob · 05/10/2020 09:40

That’s all a total nonsense. I’d say just use the nearest shops you want. Surely less travel is better.

Stabbitha · 05/10/2020 09:50

I normally go to the Welsh side anyway because it has better parking but I really wanted to go to John Lewis/Dunelm/tk-max for a really non essential purchase (weighed blanket) and they are all on the other side.

I know I'm not allowed.... but it's open and I can see it from here, I'm just not allowed.

So frustrating.

Also Flintshire here and think it’s crazy! People above saying just go- well yea, we could but if they do a random spot check and we’ve left the county to nip to John Lewis I don’t think we’ll get away with no fine for that.

ChaChaCha2012 · 05/10/2020 10:10

Totally not the point, but Amazon have lots of weighted blankets and free returns.

Stabbitha · 05/10/2020 10:18

I know Amazon do them but I like to see things before I buy.

I'm autistic with ADD. I can plan to return unsuitable items with the best intentions but I almost always miss the deadline so I only but stuff online I know is right.

Can’t you go to a food shop as well and buy something essential for if they check

Or just say you work for Nicola McSturgeon.

MaxNormal · 05/10/2020 13:56

So who exactly is going to physically prevent you? Just go if you want to go.

Lockdownfatigue · 06/10/2020 09:50

I guess the people saying ‘just go’ aren’t in Wales and don’t fully understand.

I’m in a non lockdown county and there actually are police stopping people entering a lockdown county which borders with ours. And people will report you.
