Do I need to isolate/test

I've got all the classic symptoms of mastitis, including a temperature. Surely testing/isolation doesn't apply when there is a clear cause?

Yes you need to isolate and try and get a test. Everyone else in your household also needs to isolate.

I’m sure I’m about to be flamed for saying it but surely this is where common sense comes in? If you very clearly have mastitis then I don’t think you need to test/ isolate. Although I’d imagine you’ll not be going anywhere whilst feeling so lousy anyway.

Was having this conversation with dh yesterday. Ds (6 months) is teething, they say a ‘temperature’ needs a test but also that it doesn’t have to be on a thermometer- simply feeling warm on chest/ back= temperature and therefore test. I’d have to take DS most days for a test if I followed that.

No, you’re not going to be flamed Ibizababyy.

If you have mastitis OP, then I’d recommend massaging the blocked milk duct, potentially in a hot bath. If that doesn’t work and the fever is prolonged and/or you get other symptoms of bacterial infection, then call your GP to pick up antibiotics.

You don’t need to self-isolate if you have mastitis. That would be silly.

Thank you for the sensible advice! Have got a hot water bottle on it now after an evening of cluster feeding and massaging and will try a bath tomorrow 🤞

@Londonwriter thank goodness there are still other sensible people in the world!

@NamelessNinja yes sorry should have thought to give advice too. Whilst in the bath try using the flat side of a comb to smooth towards the nipple and clear the blockage. Also dangle feeding/ feeding wirh baby’s chin on blockage can help. Agree to keep a close eye on it and go if any worse as it can get worse quickly. Get on some probiotics if you do get anitibiotics to avoid thrush. Feel better soon.
