Possible mild symptoms - when to test?

Has anyone had very, very mild symptoms and tested positive?

I've felt very hot since yesterday, can't cool down and extremely tired today but otherwise ok. My temperature is normal and I've had no change in taste or smell. Have felt the need to clear my throat alot but not an actual cough.

Work in a setting where I can't social distance so PPE required and I don't want to put anyone at risk, but I don't really know if how I'm feeling points to Covid or not?

I also have DD and my aunt helping with childcare so I have that to consider too.

Anyone had very mild symptoms like this? Should I worry?

I work in an area that deals with collation of data of Covid symptoms. You have symptoms that could be related to Covid-19. Take a test. Rule it out. It is not a waste of a test. A waste of a test is a person with NO symptoms. ZERO symptoms and they book a test for the whole family because Jayden in year 7 has tested positive and little Johnny is also in year 7 and may have passed Jayden in the corridor. Or one person is told to isolate and they are rushed to the testing centre (and why not test the whole family while they are at it. The ONLY exception to this is if you have no symptoms you are instructed by PH to test ie mass screening.

Ok, so reading this I feel my comment was a bit hasty. Sorry OP, and I hope you feel better soon.

I have a genuine question relating to testing though. Should anyone with any symptoms of a cold get tested? I’m currently developing a bit of a sore throat and snotty nose, feel a bit coldy. I’d assumed it was just a cold, given the time of year.
I had similar a few weeks ago.

Should I have taken a test each time?

Okbutnotgreat · 05/10/2020 07:53

Surely as you feel hot ie have a fever which is one if the 3 things that you definitely should be tested for then there’s no question that you should get a test. It’s really simple, if you have just one of the 3 main symptoms get a test and isolate till you get the results.

Op said her temperature is normal though.

Why not put your symptoms in and see if they offer you a test, but obviously you will have to isolate until you get results back which could be up to 72 hours, or stay off work and see how you feel tomorrow.

The NHS covid app says if you feel hotter than normal you probably have a fever you don’t need to use a thermometer.
Okbutnotgreat · 05/10/2020 09:23

And the OP says she has felt very hot since yesterday.....

DueNumberTwo · 05/10/2020 09:46

The NHS covid app says if you feel hotter than normal you probably have a fever you don’t need to use a thermometer.

But she presumably has used a thermometer if she says her temperature is normal? That advice is because not everyone has a thermometer at home. In fact, lots of people won't have.

GidgetGirl · 05/10/2020 10:36

Regardless of whether anyone has an actual measurable fever or not, it’s still a Covid symptom. I never had an official fever despite feeling hot, and from what I’ve heard from others, that’s pretty common.

movingonup20 · 05/10/2020 10:38

If you feel hot but aren't running a fever it's likely hormonal rather than a virus. But if you don't feel well you shouldn't be in work, other viruses are available!

movingonup20 · 05/10/2020 10:41

@Okbutnotgreat

Obviously written by a man! I feel hot a lot, especially my ears (go figure) but it's the menopause not covid

The NHS guidance states:

“ The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)”

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/

You have one of the three main symptoms. I would take a test. You’re wise to be cautious.
