Abdo pain, nausea, headache and fatigue

Hi, I have felt poorly for a couple of days now, starting with diarrhoea, nausea and headache and then upper abdomonal pain, all of which have been present for over 48 hours now with no improvement.

The Zoe app is saying to get a test, but there is nothing available when I look.

Do I really need to? Has anyone had or know of anyone who has had covid where they have presented as I have and the cough etc either came later or not at all?

I feel really drained but I don't work in an industry where I can work from home and take it easy so will have to go in tomorrow, but if others have experienced covid like this, maybe I shouldn't be?!

Any advice at all will be gratefully received! Thanks Smile

The Zoe app tells people to test if it thinks they don't have the virus as well, it's all part of the research.

Do you have any of the symptoms the NHS say like the cough, the temperature, the loss of smell or taste?

OpheliasCrayon · 04/10/2020 11:23

Why would you test with these symptoms? I'm a teacher and the number of people (kids and adults )I've seen in schools with absolutely hacking coughs (and people mentioning fevers!!) .... I wouldn't be worried about these at all and id be going to work if I felt up to it.

My daughter has had very similar symptoms this week and I've heard of a few others who have too. There may just be another bug going around, although I have read that stomach pain can be a sign of covid also. I have checked her temperature and it was completely normal so have not explored getting a test for her. There have been kids at her school who have tested positive although not in her bubble.

"Our data shows that the most commonly experienced early symptoms are actually headache (82%) and fatigue (72%) - and this is the case for all age groups. Only 9% of COVID-positive adults aged 18 - 65 didn’t experience headache or fatigue. Of course, headache and fatigue commonly occur in other conditions which is why they don’t trigger a test on their own." (Source: covid.joinzoe.com/post/early-covid-signs )

So yes, it could be early sign of Covid. It could be signs of some other infection. So no you should not go to work when you are ill, call in sick just like you would have done before Covid.

At this stage you are not eligible for a test but your symptoms may change so you might become eligible. Rest a lot, keep well hydrated, stay warm. Treat your symptoms and if they persist then consult your GP.

Lindy2 · 04/10/2020 12:20

The Zoe app has asked you to get tested so you are eligible to get one.

LemonTT · 04/10/2020 13:28

On the basis that you seem to have D&V why would you be considering working with this? You should stay off until these symptoms clear by at least 24 /48 hours anyway.

Ted27 · 04/10/2020 13:33

regardless of whether or not its Covid, why on earth would you go into work when you feel as unwell as this.

I would have hoped that one of the better outcomes of this pandemic would be that people struggling into work when they could be carrying any type of infection would become a thing of the past.

Singinginshower · 04/10/2020 18:01

I had similar symptoms OP with a raised temp and change in taste, so got a test, which was negative

Mindymomo · 04/10/2020 18:16

I certainly wouldn’t go to work with those symptoms. If it’s norovirus, with sickness and diarrhoea that can be passed on very quickly and your work colleagues will not want to catch that.

ChablisandCrisps · 05/10/2020 19:59

Thank you everyone. I woke up at 3am with a temperature of 38 so we are isolating ahead of a test tomorrow. No vomiting or diarrhoea now but intense abdominal pain that I can now feel in my back and a banging headache. Fingers crossed its just noro.

Thanks again.

Gastric upsets - diarrhoea, reflux, stomach cramps - were my main symptom of Covid, plus headache and sore throat, no fever, no cough, didn’t lose taste / smell until a week into it.

Glad you are getting tested.

You’d go to work with these symptoms? Our school has a 48 hours after last symptom policy with diarrhoea.

OP regardless of test or no test, you are clearly poorly and need rest and the last thing your workplace needs is any illness spreading through it. Get well soon Flowers
