Changes to quarantine rules?

Hi,

I’ve got a holiday booked in 4 weeks that includes a transit stop at a country not on the travel corridor. There were rumours a while ago that there would be changes to the rules, either airport testing or testing after 7 days and if it was negative you could be released. But I’ve heard nothing recently.

Clutching at straws but is it likely there will be any changes in the next few weeks?

Very much doubt I’ll change in the next few week. They already threw out the idea of testing instead of quarantine. Are you able to quarantine? Or can you change your journey?

We had someone at work travelling abroad recently and they have to quarantine for 14 days. I have not heard anything may change, but the countries you are going to may come in or out of the list at any time.
That is really what is making travelling abroad a nightmare these days! You may be caught already there.

If it was just us we could quarantine but it wouldn’t be fair on our toddler to keep them at home for 14 days. We could just about manage 7 days of keeping him home from nursery.

I don’t think there’s any chance of the transit stop coming off the list, maybe our actual destination. It’s so frustrating because we’ll only be in the transit stop country for 2 hours first thing in the morning when the airport is still quiet and everyone has to have a negative test to get on the plane

This was reported in the Times today - apparently the government are looking at Airport testing (results back in 6 hours) which you pay for or a free test, cutting quarantine to 7 days. Germany and France both have these systems.

As someone whose DH works in the travel industry, I hope it works!

Autumnleaves200 · 04/10/2020 10:23

Ohh that could be promising crazycatlady. I’d love to say I want to go on holiday to support the industry and small businesses while I’m away. But really I mainly want some sea and sun

Lol! Any support for whatever reason is gratefully received!!
I’m so jealous - would love some sea / sun!

My fingers are crossed you get to go on your holiday! Everyone deserves a break!

Airport testing is pointless and tells you nothing except if you have it active at the time you’re tested. Quarantine is the only way to be sure that you cannot spread it to others

Autumnleaves200 · 04/10/2020 11:02

I think given the lack of compliance with quarantining and the potential job loss in the travel industry testing after 5-7 days and if it’s negative you can go out seems like a decent compromise. The majority of people show symptoms within 5 days of infection so you’d catch most people.

@Autumnleaves200 the rules state you don’t have to quarantine if you don’t get off the plane and mix, and if no one else new gets on? (Clutching at straws for you here)

Autumnleaves200 · 04/10/2020 11:58

We have to swap planes so there would be loads of new people Sad

Oh Sad

Autumnleaves200 · 05/10/2020 21:13

There’s an article in the guardian now saying the rules might be changed soon. Fingers crossed
