Self isolating after a holiday

Hi,

I'm interested to hear from people who have had to self isolated after coming back from a country where you have to self isolate for 14 days. How many of you were contacted to check you were at home?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm going to Italy tomorrow which is currently on the 'safe' list but I'm preparing for the scenario that that might change while we're there. I'm happy to isolate if I have to, but I would have to drive my daughter to school. She isn't coming with us, so she wouldn't have to isolate. Am thinking that if I drive her there and don't get out of the car or see anyone else, there's no risk?

She's not a 'visitor'. She lives with me. I've read the guidelines, and they say that only the people who travelled have to isolate. So you are clearly making up new rules which don't exist.

Don’t bother my holier than thou neighbours came back from Spain and started part quarantining which as I pointed out is t quarantining. Stay safe

FloraZ · 03/10/2020 20:42

@Username198 one of the things you can do even if you’re quarantined is to go for essential food shopping if you can’t get it delivered. Or at least you could in July.

QuentinInQuarantino · 03/10/2020 20:45

I've been in and out of England from Spain a few times since June and haven't been contacted yet. My sister wasn't contacted.

I find it odd how people are happily flouting the rule of six but are very much too-the-letter-of-the-law" with foreign arrivals quarantine. Underlying xenophobia?

I'd be more worried about catching Covid from my brother who commutes into London and has a busy social life than from my other brother who lives on Spain but works from home, has weekly tests (he volunteers for a research program) and always drives when he visits England.

She doesn't have to self-isolate. But the people who travelled do. That means you need to avoid contact with her. And you can't leave the house. And you can't be in a car with her (too close contact). It's fine for your daughter to stay at home and go to school as long as she distances from you.

That’s not the caSe anymore

You cannot go out to work or school or visit public areas. You should not go shopping. If you require help buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, you should ask friends or relatives or order a delivery.

In England, you must only exercise within your home or garden. You cannot leave your home to walk your dog. You will need to ask friends or relatives to help you with this.

NHS Volunteer Responders are also available if you need help collecting shopping, medication or would like a telephone ‘check-in and chat’. Call 0808 196 3646 (8am to 8pm) to arrange volunteer support. You can arrange one-off support, or schedule more regular help whilst you are self-isolating.

I wasn't contacted, neither was my mum when she went away.

@chocolatesaltyballs22

Guaranteed in the current climate someone will report you if you go out in the car daily.

Best just stick to the rules if you have to quarantine.

FloraZ · 03/10/2020 20:52

@EasterIssland - I stand corrected! Thanks! @Username198 ignore me because I’m behind the times!

To be honest later it says if you can’t get online then you can go shopping. Hmm but it does first mention to try and get help from others

Thanks *@EmmaStone*. It does seem ridiculous that even going for walks where you see no one is not allowed. We could do that even in full lockdown.

Also my local area has far higher infection rates than Italy do, so it makes little sense. But yes, let's hope they stay on the 'safe' list for at least another week.

No, you couldn't even go for walks during full lockdown if you were supposed to be isolating.

And I think it's a very fair question about how your DD is getting to school while you are away? Given your isolation would need to include distancing from her and definitely not going in a car with her, you need another option.

tink09 · 03/10/2020 21:14

We would send your daughter home and ask her to isolate with you if she was living in the same house. We would not be risking an infection outbreak because someone has decided that they do not need to isolate from other members of the household.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 09/10/2020 07:25

Well I escaped the isolation list last night - yay!
