What are your opinions on taking a UK holiday right now?

We are supposed to be going on a week's holiday quite soon. Approx 30 miles from home, car and ferry travel. In Scotland but not too or from a local lockdown area. Family of 4, self contained SC accommodation.
Would you? Should we?! Wildly different opinions being expressed amongst friends and family right now!

I think Arran and other similar islands which rely on tourist need the money. There is a risk of not being able to get back on the ferry -minimised if you book and I'm assuming that they will still let you home if there is a lockdown. I remember reading about problems in the summer - was that too much demand?

RaraRachael · 03/10/2020 10:33

Itisasecret I'm in the same position as you. No Easter or summer break so 3 days away is my "treat" for the year. Conditions in school are awful, I'm abiding by every rule I'm supposed to, so if the health of the nation is suffering, then it's outwith my control.

We re in England, not in a local lockdown area and we have ten days away over half term (we get two weeks here) staying in different hotels and visiting different theme parks and attractions. As long as travel is allowed, we don’t have symptoms and we don’t have to isolate we will still be going.

Updownin · 03/10/2020 11:30

We've been hit with 2 different isolation ( school contact related via the dc) so regardless there is always the test and trace call risk - that call does happen ( twiceSad).

@LizzieMacQueen NS only asked that people did not book to go abroad during the October week. I know people who are flying out today to Cyprus having paid for a private test despite her advice.
We are heading down south for 4 days self catering I’m sure we will be able to SD the same as at home.
Having worked throughout with my dc attending school hubs from lockdown to school return in August it’s out first time to relax together.
However if the rules change them it’s hamewiedomi

Yes needing to leave the island mid week is a concern for me, if we get a text re self isolating or one of us becomes ill. Ferry booked for both journeys at start and end of week tho.
Altho hearing that people are still flying abroad makes me wonder if I'm over thinking Grin

We are in a local lockdown area (despite numbers not being that high where we actually live). We are still permitted to travel.
We just came back last night from a few days in the Lakes, spent all our time outdoors - including all meals. It was amazing and we were desperate for a break. Felt very safe there.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 03/10/2020 15:47

I'd go (and I have, in similar circumstances - cottage booked with friends pre-lockdown)

I have no regrets

Ineverdidmind · 03/10/2020 18:10

We have a UK holiday booked for October half term. As things stand the rules allow us to go and assuming that doesn't change and none of us catch the virus we will definitely be going and I can't wait!
We had a week away in the UK in August too and had a fabulous time. Fingers crossed this will be the same, I have no qualms about travelling as long as it remains within the rules.

We are heading to Pitlochry, approx 1h frim home for Oct hols. Self contained accommodation booked a year ago, so well pre covid. We will be going and juat being careful as we are at home. However almost expecting a mini lockdown to coincide with Oct hols, hope not as tourist industry needs the hols as a positive end. Apart from this have only had a self contained weekend away in our caravan this year. Also have tge tbreat that my class or the kids bubbles or huabands work could put us i to lockdown before then.
Enjoy your holiday.
