What do they mean by continuous?

I have a cold, shivers, headache and sore throat, the same as every year - however I have a really tickly cough, I feel like I need to cough all the time. I have a slight feeling of weight on my chest. I feel very tired, but otherwise fine. Do I need a test? What constitutes continuous? I am coughing a lot, but it is not non stop.

I would say you need a test.

Thanks, I don't want to waste a test, but it is probably better to be safe.

That counts. It means not just a one off. I think I’ve seen three episodes being mentioned. It’s having a ‘bit of a cough’ (or indeed a proper cough!)

You definitely need a test for your cough and your shivers.

Continuous means it wasn't just a one off. The opposite of this for example is if you choked on some food and coughed a little. A continuous cough continues over a period of time. This is also the meaning of persistent, still there a few hours later or the next day.

Hope you feel better soon x

Yep, you need to test.
