This time next year?

What do you think this time next year will be like? Do you think things will be trending back towards normal?

Prompted by a winter light festival sending me an early-booking offer for October’s event.

I like to think that there will be a lot of normality by then. That a large portion of the population will have been vaccinated, and we’ll also, have better treatments, and will be starting to put it in the rear view mirror. That people who were badly economically affected would have started to recover. That next year there will be Christmas markets, and parties at work.

Am I being overly optimistic.

We'll be millionaires Rodney!

In far better position yes. There will be some eureka 💡 break through. Something. Mind you it's like flu and we never cracked flu. But yes, we will be much better at understanding it at the very least.

I'm very confident that things will get back to normal extremely quickly. They nealry did this summer.. It will be so quick.

BlueBlancmange · 01/10/2020 22:44

I hope things will be much more under control as a result of an at least partially effective vaccine, effective treatments and rapid testing. I am also hopeful things will start to improve from early 2021.

I’m loving the positivity 😊. And I agree that when it starts to get back to normal it will do so quite quickly. The difference over the summer on the course of a few weeks was really pronounced.

I think if I can be reasonably sure that next year will include family Christmas meals, bonfire night, office party and trick or treat, then I can manage to enjoy the quiet version this year.

Life will essentially be back to normal, and all the celebrations (Halloween, bonfire night, Christmas etc) will be super-sized with more joy and appreciation than ever before. I think it will be really rather lovely.

I desperately hope that we keep some aspects of our COVID time, such as less international travel, appreciation of local activities and businesses, more employer flexibility, enjoyment of the simpler things in life and the importance of family.

PivotPivott · 02/10/2020 20:36

I hope that we have a vaccination by then. The virus will be gone but if it isn't gone very very minimal.
I hope my MH gets better and most of all I hope I can just go somewhere without getting paranoid I've picked up the virus or brought it home with me.

Racoonworld · 02/10/2020 20:45

It will be back to normal next year. There will be a vaccine which will have started to be rolled out, better treatment and faster testing. People will have abandoned the rules by Christmas this year anyway (whose not going to see there family at Christmas??).

Deja vu. Cases go down through the summer, then panic when cases go up when the schools go back.

It’s been quite an eye opener to see that despite often saying “I’m not scared of Dying” ....most.people are actually pretty scared of it!

For me it will be more of the same this time next year because there is now way a vaccine will be rolled out that quickly and even if it is, there is no guarantee it will work for everyone. People will die and it will become just another thing people die from without the daily fuss of this year.

I think in 12 months it'll pretty much be the same as now in terms of cases. You'll get your spike in September from the new term in schools, colleges and universities and onto workplaces etc and then it'll just be another virus circulating through the winter (vaccine or no vaccine).

The question is what the restrictions will actually be through 2021. Can you go in a shop or on a train without a mask, can you go to a football match, can you go to a nightclub, can you go to a normal indoor gig? Can you go to a music festival? Can you sit in a pub after 10pm?

@Scottishgirl85 That sounds good, a lot less business travel, more WFH and being able to do my own school run instead of having extra clubs AND the supersized version of parties/occasions/events

I wonder if there will be a “boomer” generation like there was after the war
