Self isolation query

MillieEpple · 01/10/2020 18:17

Ive given up hope of getting our test result back so i wondered how long i have to isolate for. Its a household member so I know its 14 days from when he first had symptoms but i dont know what they count as first symptoms. It is only the testable symptoms so the day he got a temp and cough or when he first started being ill (with headache and runny nose which was 2 days before)

Logically I think it's first day with any symptoms, but I agree it's unclear and the Advice should be clarified.

MrsVeryTired · 01/10/2020 18:31

First day with Covid symptoms, so cough, temp or loss of taste and smell.

I would like advice too.

The bubble of dgd popped on Tuesday, due to a case in class.

So she is at home in isolation. And l think rest of family should be too? Dh has announced he’s off to see ads in the garden. Is this OK?Confused

Providing she doesn't have symptoms then the rest of the household don't need to isolate.

@TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince
Rest of the family don't need to be in isolation if neither she or anyone else in the family has had any symptoms, but they are not allowed visitors to their home due to the possibility of contact with the isolating individual.

Do you have a link to where it says this?
MillieEpple · 01/10/2020 20:59

I guess i just have to err on the side of caution. I had an important medical appointment i could make if its symptoms but if its testable symptoms ill have to rebook. But i dont want to risk other people.

I'd have thought any symptoms sorry. But agree it's not clear.

Augustbreeze · 01/10/2020 21:44

Why not ring the office for your appointment and ask them? They'll have guidelines, and screening questions that they'd need you to answer before f2f contact anyway.

MillieEpple · 01/10/2020 21:47

Good plan

I've read through the NHS Guidance and it says to isolate if "someone you live with has symptoms or has tested positive". I would assume it means Coronavirus symptoms and not random ones.

MrsVeryTired · 02/10/2020 14:46

here @Augustbreeze

Augustbreeze · 02/10/2020 20:06

But the question is, does "symptoms" mean one of the three main ones (as defined by the NHS), or symptoms which scientists (eg at the WHO) know could also mean coronavirus and in fact are almost as common, eg sickness in children?

Frazzled2207 · 02/10/2020 20:41

from when he first started symptoms of being ill I'd say. But only 10 days for him. 14 days for the rest of you unfortunately.
