Outdoor flu vaccination?

Viv0321 · 01/10/2020 15:29

Anyone able to book a flu vaccination outside? If so, where?

Local GP surgery doing all flu vaccine clinics in their car park - people have been warned they will not be able to park on site or “drive thru”. Have yet to see if that involves tents, gazebos or just people getting wet...

Tesco, Boots etc is in store here.

BrazenlyDefying · 01/10/2020 15:33

In the UK, in October? Hmm

Most large scale vaccination here is in sports centres, or village halls.

herecomesthsun · 01/10/2020 15:36

Our GP surgery had people walking into their airy reception room (I was the only patient there), with 2 nurses with stations set up, ready to give a quickie jab.

BlueyDragon · 01/10/2020 15:38

My surgery has set up a drive thru clinic in a local leisure centre car park that is multi storey. Works really well.

SerenityNowwwww · 01/10/2020 15:40

As in outside in the open air? Never heard of such a thing!

Viv0321 · 01/10/2020 15:58

Bluey- that’s sounds brilliant

Thanks everyone for their replies. I can’t seem to find anything without going into a small stuffy room.

Ours are using the local church.

ramblingsonthego · 01/10/2020 16:09

My local gp did just this earlier this week. They closed the whole car park. They had booked appointments and then had two queues. One for over 65s and one for under 65s. They had gazebos and it was the best set up so far. In and out in less than 3 minutes.

Disconnect · 01/10/2020 16:09

Yes, 2 of our local GP surgeries are doing this - absolutely brilliant idea and has been v. popular.
I couldn't get a slot for 4 weeks.
GPs have also realised they could be making money in the same way as with the paid-for vaccinations that the chemists and supermarkets are doing.
Also brilliant idea. I have to pay for my flu vaccine and would rather it went to my GP practice than a big chain.

Disconnect · 01/10/2020 16:10

Also demonstrates the range of options for getting the anticipated Covid-19 vaccination administered to as many people as possible as quickly as possible now that these drive-thru vaccination programs have been shown to be feasible and popular.

notevenat20 · 01/10/2020 16:11

I had mine in an open sided tent standing up. Like having a flu jab under an umbrella. It was the most efficient thing I have experienced in life.

Disconnect · 01/10/2020 16:12

Btw these 2 GP surgeries have been doing drive-thru (not outside in a gazebo) - which I think is best. No queuing with strangers, less chance of getting rained on, don't even have to share a chair - stick out your arm and drive off!
Fantastic!

Viv0321 · 01/10/2020 18:24

I just can’t find them anywhere!

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/10/2020 18:26

We've got a drive through flu jab clinic. I'm going next Saturday for mine. It's at the local airport carpark (a very tiny local airport)

Disconnect · 01/10/2020 18:26

I think they should be much more widespread, especially with the current situation. I agree sitting in a small stuffy room and sharing air with multiple people (even with masks) doesn't seem a great idea, certainly not for the vulnerable.
This is the year for health services to adapt, and for the general population to embrace doing everything outside in the fresh air.

ChavvySexPond · 01/10/2020 18:28

My parents surgery did a drive in Saturday. You wound down the window and presented your arm. Job done.

ChavvySexPond · 01/10/2020 18:31

@Viv0321

Thanks everyone for their replies. I can’t seem to find anything without going into a small stuffy room.
Same. High street chemists should set up gazebos outside to do them.

Who wants to have it done in the same tiny completely unventilated covid conserving cubicle that loads of other people have been in today?!

HoldMyLobster · 01/10/2020 18:34

This is also happening in my bit of the US. The school set up a drive through flu vax clinic for students and their families. My GP is doing all their vaccinations in an open sided tent.

Makes so much sense.

stgrssl · 01/10/2020 18:47

Had my jab at GP's. Was given a specific time to attend and instructed to wear mask and short sleeves. Can honestly say I was in the building less than 90 seconds. Name and no COVID symptom checked outside, directed straight to nurse who asked my name again as I sat down, asked if I'd had flu jab last year, did injection and directed me out the back door. Extremely efficient and safe.

Marquee in the drs car park! Very strange and luckily on a nice day!
