Schools and covid test results.

Do the school have a legal right to ask for a covid test result?
My child's school is demanding to see a family members result before they can re enter the building.

No I don’t think legally they can, but it might be the school policy.
It only shows the person name and date of birth so I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to show them anyway - you could always blank out the date of birth if that’s the issue.

I havent got a problem with showing the school, just the way I was spoken to about it saying they can by law see it!
Never have I been asked at my other children's schools.

No, by law they cannot ask, but personally I think that's wrong.

Castiel07 · 01/10/2020 09:48

Like I said I really haven't a problem, if I was notified that it was school policy in the first place I would of shown them.
But being called up demanding and telling me it is law and they can see it when it seems it is not is not on.
Surely if they just ask politely then it wouldn't put peoples back up.
And its hardly my fault it isn't law is it, but its not so there you go.

I think it is a sensible policy for schools to see results, purely because there will be some families that try and send their children back in when results may not have come back yet or results were positive. But it is definitely not the law for them to request the results. Government guidance is that schools should not ask for results before allowing children back to school. This is only guidance though. I personally think guidance should be that people should be showing results to school.

Whatever9999 · 01/10/2020 10:02

Why wouldn't you have shown them the result? I forwarded the email with the negative result immediately, despite no-one actually asking to see it.

Castiel07 · 01/10/2020 10:05

Because I WAS NEVER ASKED, none of my other children's schools have ever asked to see any either.
I will make sure I do going forward, it wasnt a have a go at me for not giving them the results I was merely asking if it was law.

It can't be law. I got my DC tested through work (I work in a hospital so that is possible and they process the tests in their own lab) and I didn't get written proof of the negative result to show anybody, just a phone call from someone in the Infection Control team. Fortunately, this wasn't an issue with school, as she was already off self-isolating due to a positive case in her class when she got a cough so I didn't inform the school I was getting her tested.

Thank you, I'm not against giving out test results at all. I just wanted to know if it was actually law that you had to send results in. It wasnt about you should or you shouldn't.

I do wonder whether schools have started requesting to see test results for children as it seems that some parents are returning children to school after a couple of days at home saying they tested negative, just to get them back, when they may not have even been tested.

Castiel07 · 01/10/2020 12:48

But then parents can lie about what there children are of for, saying they have been being sick when they actually have covid symptoms.
Those types of parents are going to lie anyway.
Does not help when people have to self isolate every other week and don't get paid for it either.
Not saying it is right but that is peoples realities.

It isn’t law but I think it’s sensible of them. I forwarded my son’s negative test result to my daughters school and my employer.
