Why is Teeside excluded from the NE protective measures?

Cases are going up and up in Teeside.
Most of the NE has been put under protective/containment measures. Teeside wasn't included. The mayors of Middlesbrough and Hartlepool have asked for local lockdown measures. Why hasn't the government done as they've asked?

Is Teesside not being bunged in with Yorkshire? I don't know what restrictions are in place in Yorkshire but it does seem a bit strange that it hasn't followed the rest of the North East unless cases are much lower than the rest of the NE.

SheepandCow · 30/09/2020 23:39

I don't know if the media thinks it's been included as Yorkshire? They keep referring to the NE restrictions. It's like Teeside has been overlooked. Cases are increasing there. The mayors of Middlesbrough and Hartlepool have asked for local lockdowns. No Idea why it hasn't happened.

Last week they resisted tighter restrictions, this week in Middlesbrough Andy Preston (Mayor) is calling for more, but Andy McDonald (MP Lab) and Simon Clark (MP Con) are keen to try other measures. Basically the usual infighting that goes on.

Perhaps the government read this thread...
Not yet the whole of Teeside but Middlesbrough and Hartlepool have now been included in the NE lockdown (from Saturday).

Does anyone have a link to the boundary for restrictions?

RedCatBlueCat · 01/10/2020 18:28

@Lemons1571 if you pay council tax to Middlesbrough or Hartlepool, you are included in the extra lockdown. Stockton or Redcar &Cleveland and you are currently ok to socialise.

Gazette maps in here

@RedCatBlueCat thank you

Middlesbrough and Hartlepool ARE part of Teesside. Redcar & Clevrland has half as many cases per 100k people with a population of 130k including many rural communities that were one North Yorkshire. Stockton cases were high in wave 1 but I haven't checked current cases.

FourTeaFallOut · 01/10/2020 19:23

The cases in Stockton are 84/100k but there are particular wards which are being hit hard and it doesn't seem to be linked to a closed environment, like a factory or care home. No idea how we are flying under the radar. 😷

There's places called Grangetown, Eston and South Bank near me. If anyone asked which council they were I would have said Middlesbrough but they are classed as part of the Redcar & Cleveland cases. Houses in those parts basically touch Middlesbrough houses, physical boundaries are non existent, they roll Street into street.

There's a village called School Aycliffe in Co. Durham. One side of it is in Darlington boundary the other is in Co. Durham. I saw a post on a local FB page recently that was asking about childcare as their parents (grandparents to the DCs) lived in Co. Durham. If they lived across the road they would be in Darlington and not in lockdown (as it happens childcare is allowed now, but wasn't when local lockdown first came in)

One of my mates in Nunthorpe is in lockdown, the other isn’t. I’m in Ingleby, Stockton so we’re okay so far 🤷‍♀️ I previously understood the need for local lockdowns but now that I’m part of one, I’m genuinely bewildered by the logistics. My husband is working in Middlesbrough tomorrow, a few of my colleagues in my school in Yarm live In Middlesbrough.... etc etc. If people want to break the rules they just need to pop into a neighbouring area. It’s ridiculous. All of Teesside should be following the same rules.

With any luck the poor weather will keep everyone from flocking to the seaside towns that aren't locked down.
