Approximately 9000 women will not be aware they have breast cancer because of this. That's not including the thousands of women who haven't sought advice when they've found a lump. How can this be justified?

Due to family history I am classed as moderate risk for breast cancer and have been getting invitations for breast cancer screenings since turning 40. The letter usually comes in June for a July appointment. This year I didn't get the letter.

However! I rang up my hospital trust in July, they called me back a day later and arranged an appointment very swiftly for a routine mammogram. Got the results back within ten days, all ok.

What I am trying to say is this. We have to take responsibility for our own health and make these things happen. If you know you are supposed to have your routine check up, just ring your hospital and get it arranged! From my personal experience all got arranged swiftly and efficiently - but I had to make the first call, knowing that this year things are just different.

As an aside, I read that in January a particular NHS Trust had approximately 50 people who were waiting longer than a year for a medical procedure. That number has now increased to approximately 5,000 and it's estimated that by March next year it'll be 20,000.

Admittedly most of those procedures won't be for anything life threatening but the delay will impact significantly on quality of life.

There’ll be no breast screening if we just out an end to this and get back to normal either. Neither will there be any other treatment.

I have had breast cancer twice and have an annual mammogram. I had been concerned that I wouldn’t get one this year and was starting to investigate paying privately. However, I was contacted a few weeks ago and invited in at the weekend - either Saturday or Sunday. I’m still clear.

I suspect there are regional differences.

I really feel for anyone going through treatment or not being able to get the right tests. But I can’t see how letting covid rip through the population will help at all. There will be no normal if we can’t keep it under control. I ended up in A&E due to catching a common cold half way through chemo.

I had an initial mammogram cancelled in March with no appointment in sight yet still 🤷‍♀️ I'm having it due to increased risk as female relatives (2 of them) were diagnosed in recent years with breast cancer Sad
