I don't want WFH to end completely

I read an article in the FT that said the City is necessary to boost productivity and that once covid dies down or there is a vaccine the City will make a comeback.
I am fine to go in 2x per week. But everyday with the commute is crazy. I don't see the benefit. My children do benefit from me being more present at home.
I get it that City businesses and office values and venues will suffer.
But do you really think the City will come back as before or can I hang onto hope for a new more balanced world post covid?

Depends on your companies view. A lot will probably offer more flexible working but depends what the culture is.

Our company was quite anti WFH before but having it forced upon them and them realising that productivity has increased and the potential savings from giving up our office in Mayfair and replacing it with something smaller with hot desks are quite large.

There will be partial WFH from now on and reduced travel as well.

I don't think it will, not like it was before. I think a lot of companies have seen the benefits of flexible home working to their bottom line. I think some sectors will need an office presence at some times but I don't think it will be anything like before. I do think though that when this is over a lot of changes will take place and a lot of industries and sectors will look completely different because we didn't know what would be possible until we had no choice.
I think younger people will possibly try to push for more office time for the social aspect or networking though and companies may want some aspect of that, and of staff to come into the office on a flexible basis.
What sector do you work in?

I really really hope not. Happy to do 3 days in a week but everyone's commented on how much healthier I look and it's because I have two extra hours a day to relax or exercise

Also I think where the city business suffers local high streets will benefit. Ultimately we will spend the money we save somewhere ....

I work in a small accountancy firm. Our company is very pro family and WFH but I may not be there long term so hoping other employers moving towards more flex working as seeing tangible benefits.

Yep it will just like 2008 we are encouraged to go back ..... the city was overcrowded anyway so not a bad thing of people don't go back
