Test for a slight tickly cough when already had Covid a few months ago

I have no other symptoms and have just got over a cold (which we've all had in my family) but now have a bit of a tickly cough. I had a confirmed case of Covid a few months ago.
Do I need a test? My instinct is telling me it's not something to worry about and it's just a bit of a cough which is normal for this time of year.

sounds like the tail end of a cold but who knows

bambamthankyouboo · 30/09/2020 08:24

That's what I'm thinking too

@bambamthankyouboo it's so hard to know for the best isn't it! I've got what I'm 99% certain is a cold now - no temp, a cough but it's very loose! Major runny nose Grin

You could try and get tested if there's some available if it would put your mind at rest?

bambamthankyouboo · 30/09/2020 08:29

@thesearethegoodolddays very frustrating isn't it. Apparently having a runny nose is a sign that you don't have it and it's just a cold so sounds like you don't need to worry.

When I had the virus I was actually really ill with multiple symptoms which went on for weeks. I know there's no proof you can't get it twice but it's seems highly unlikely when I had it a few months ago.

One of the confirmed cases of reinfection had only 48 days between positive tests.

I think you should see whether you can get a test. If it's positive tat would provide scientists with some really useful information -- either that you're STILL testing positive and showing symptoms a few months after first testing positive or that you've contracted it a 2nd time. Most likely it's a common cold/cough but as it's a new cough strictly speaking you should get tested anyway.

Cough seems to be getting less frequent already it's really very slight

The runny nose means just runny nose without cough etc.
A cough is a cough the runny nose doesnt mean you dont need to test

bambamthankyouboo · 30/09/2020 09:48

If it continues to improve and get less frequent over the day then common sense is telling me there's no need to waste time testing as I'll just be adding to the testing capacity issues. If it persists/gets worse and is still there tomorrow I'll sort a test to be on safe side - even though I don't think it's covid.
