Should DH get a covid test for rash?

chookbug · 30/09/2020 00:14

DH doesn't have typical covid symptoms, he is fatigued and has had some digestive issues. He has now developed a rash that looks like pityarisis rosea. We tried antifungal cream on it thinking it could be ringworm but its not ring worm.

People are getting PR with covid. Should he be tested?

OP posts:
Bahhh · 30/09/2020 00:15

It's not one of 'the' symptoms, so no.

Crinkledbeetroot · 30/09/2020 00:18

No!

chookbug · 30/09/2020 00:18

So we can just go about our business aa usuak without isolating?

The no was to your original question. Yes, you can go about as normal. If he develops a cough, fever or loses his sense of taste or smell then he needs a test.

MJMG2015 · 30/09/2020 00:20

Fatigued
Digestive issues
Rash that looks like the Covid Rash.

Is he exceptionally/unusually fatigued?

Have you taken his temperature?

lots of people are asymptomatic, or only have some of the 'other' symptoms. We have one of, if not THE narrowest criteria for getting a test.

I'd advise him to isolate & get a test.

chookbug · 30/09/2020 00:21

Was just concerned he might be spreading it but if people think ita not covid then that's fine.

Just conceening that covid is presenting in various ways and not everyone has the main symptoms.

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 00:24

Rash might not be one of the symptoms, but it is a symptom.

Why would you not get a test? This is what I don’t understand about the UK’s covid response. It’s like it was here (New York) in March -can’t get a test without a fever.

chookbug · 30/09/2020 00:24

Very difficult to know what to do. I don't want him to use a test slot if he doesn't need it but what if he has it with atypical symptoms and is going about infecting people. We were in a restaurant yesterday for example before I noticed the rash.

Is it lots of bits or one rash?
Just wondering if it could be lyme? Have you been walking in woods or long grass?

Re covid it does sound like it could be but doesnt really fit what requires a test. Certainly dont visit any elderly people

LilyPond2 · 30/09/2020 00:26

If you are both able to self-isolate on the assumption your DH has Covid then I would do that. If your DH needs a positive test in order for one or both of you to justify not going into work, I would say get a test. No doubt other posters will be along to say that it's wrong to test for anything that isn't an official symptom, but when the government advice is so obviously flawed, I think there are times when you need to apply your own brain to the situation. Your DH has symptoms which are clearly potential Covid symptoms.

Ponoka7 · 30/09/2020 00:27

Is it definitely not shingles?

When I had covid, I thought I was getting shingles, but then my wee turned orange. I then developed a cough around four days later. I never got a high temperature or lost my sense of taste/smell. If there wasn't a shortage, I'd say he should get a test. If you don't then be careful who you are around and SD. He has three of the symptoms, just not the ones our NHS has decided to list. Other countries are though.

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 00:29

Don’t feel bad about taking a test, OP. That there aren’t enough tests isn’t your fault. It could be Covid, get tested.

chookbug · 30/09/2020 00:30

It is over his entire trunk. It looks exactly like pityriasis rosea which covid patients have presented with and no other symptoms but fatigue. They showed lung damage on x ray though.

No, no, no!

Do not get a test unless you have one of the Z’s three symptoms!

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 00:39

@18eggs but rash is a Covid symptom. So are fatigue and digestive issues. So what do you do then? Everyone isolate for 14 days? How is that sustainable?

18eggs · 30/09/2020 00:45

Please read the Gov/NHS guidance. No one has to self isolate for a rash. The website is very clear.

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 00:49

Fair enough. You can only go by your own government’s rules. That anyone in the UK can’t get a test for any (or even no) reason is an absolute fucking scandal.

StarCat2020 · 30/09/2020 01:00

Could you get a GP (online / phone) appointment tomorrow?

Recycledblonde · 30/09/2020 01:32

When I tested positive for Covid I didn’t have a temperature or cough and only developed the loss of taste/smell after about ten days. I was more tired than normal but that was it.

StarCat2020 · 30/09/2020 02:04

Where did you live?

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 02:09

I’m in the US, in New York. Yes, things were bad and massive mistakes were made at the start and you couldn’t get a test in March unless you had a fever and good luck but huge strides have been made since then. You can get tested now, for any reason, you don’t have to be symptomatic. Apart from anything else, it makes economic sense to be able to get people back to work in two days rather than isolate for two weeks and also to catch asymptomatic cases wherever you can.

I’m British and most of my family are there so I follow what’s going on pretty closely.

Get him to call 111 for advice. Dont just book a test.

That was going to be my next question

Thank you

If the rash is one of those that has been reported as a possible sign of Covid then I would seek medical advice. A Covid test may not be available at this stage.
