Temperature - What if you just run hot?

Given one of the symptoms for needing a test is a temperature, what if you just run hot? I have a mild metabolic disorder which means my temperature is quite often 37.8. Not unusual for it to be as high as 38.4 without me actually being sick with anything.

I have assumed therefore that I should seek a test if my temperature is high for me, i.e. above 38.6, but now I am second guessing myself.

Does anyone else run hot?

I have the reverse. I run cold so im normally right at the bottom of normal 36.1 so 37.8 is an enourmous temp for me. When you buy a thermometer it says take your temp for a week to get a base. But ive never met a GP that cares what my base is.

No idea. I run hot and so does DD.

WhoseThatGirl · 29/09/2020 21:39

I would guess if you have a temperature for you.

I’d suggest you get yourself some advice from a doctor and potentially carry round some sort of proof with you. You wouldn’t be allowed into my work building atm with a temperature above 37.3 so you might need to prepared for that!

As for needing a test, again ask your doctor probably...

I mentioned this to the gp as dc3(7) is a 'hot' person & always has been. He normal temp is 37.6-8. On the advice of her consultant when she was a baby (under him for something else but it was noted her temp was always high) I've always counted a temperature as above 38.5. The gp said I was fine to continue to do so & that school could contact him if there were any issues). I'm assuming it's partly why they have the 'hot to the touch' advice as well along with thermometers being like hens teeth at the start as even at her temp she isn't actually hot to the touch (if that makes sense).

As a previous poster says you would not be allowed into my place of work (dentist) if your temp is 37.8 or above!
We would advise you to return home, organise a test and self isolate until a negative result!

I've not heard of any adult with COVID just having a temperature with mo other symptoms - lethargy, headache, sore throat etc. So maybe also look out for a combination of symptoms.

Of course COVID is so perverse that you'll probably find if you get it that you have chills instead.

StatisticalSense · 29/09/2020 21:53

You wouldn't be allowed in my work either with a temperature above 37.8. Well in all probability you would get in as the thermometers typically read in the 33-34 degrees range for many and the advice to anyone above 37.8 is to sit in their car with the aircon on full blast for 15 minutes to try and get a lower reading...

Blimey, I didn’t even think about places that might do routine temp checks.

Although, to be fair, I work from home and don’t really go anywhere, so not much of an issue really.

I’ll ask the Drs next time I speak to them, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
