I’m currently waiting for Covid test results. I’m self employed so I think I can claim ssp but that’s not what worries me. I’m worried about losing clients/business especially as I’m going on 3 months maternity leave in a few weeks. Hoping results come in today so I don’t have to cancel another days work.

Self employed - so I can claim ESA, which takes weeks to get and I have to pay someone else to work for me.

Funkypolar · 29/09/2020 10:24

What happens if you use the app and you keep having to self-isolate? I think employers will start dismissing people after a few months of this.

HipHopBanzai · 29/09/2020 10:27

WFH so could carry on working. Colleagues who aren't working from home would get full pay though.

ChodeOfChodeBall · 29/09/2020 16:17

Not sure about self-employed people who can't work from home though

They are royally stuffed, so probably won't be self-isolating, as they can't afford to.

Paranoidmarvin · 29/09/2020 16:21

I got shouted at. Putting the rest of the team in jeopardy. Can’t make this crap up. I don’t get paid. Can’t do that again. U figure out what I have to do.

DebbieFiderer · 29/09/2020 16:22

We are currently isolating as DH has symptoms. I am theoretically working from home but there isn't always a huge amount I can do from home, have been reasonably well occupied today but might not have as much to do tomorrow, will be paid regardless (NHS). DH has a good sick leave policy so should get full pay, but if they count this in to his 'normal' absence he could be in trouble for too many episodes in 6 months, we'll have to see what happens when he goes back.

Paranoidmarvin · 29/09/2020 16:23

@Funkypolar yup. See my previous post. If I lose my job I lose my house and my ability to feed my son. Not going to happen just because I was in the same room with someone who tested positive but the app doesn’t log u our so they don’t know if I were there together.

Heatherjayne1972 · 29/09/2020 16:46

In one job I’d get ssp I think in the other I’d get nothing. repeated bouts of isolating would not go down well at all
As that’s two weeks of patients appointments I’d have to reschedule - with no where to them reschedule to since we are so busy

One occasion work Would be ‘ok’ with but as soon as patients complain that they’re being cancelled again And possibly again I would be ‘managed out’
In normal times it’s almost impossible for me to have a sick day

Dumpypumpy · 29/09/2020 16:49

Ssp if off more than 5 days, cant work from home. This is why i have had 3 days off sick in 10 years. Am dreading even loosing a days wage as i am main earner

Kitcat122 · 29/09/2020 20:36

Full pay for me but no pay if I'm off because my children are self isolating.

Funkypolar · 29/09/2020 22:17

If you know you are at risk of losing your job and ending up destitute, people aren’t going to keep self-isolating are they.

Employers are going to start dismissing people for taking time off work. We have a very few employment rights. Of course they won’t tell you it’s because of self-isolating, they’ll make something else up.

It’s hard to self-isolate when you are homeless.
