Scared to go anywhere now in case of need to isolate!

Have already had one dc having to isolate for 2 weeks after only a week in school because someone tested positive, plus having 2 other dc ‘s in different years.

Obviously risks of one of the dc’s having to isolate again is high.

Really not sure how that works with work.

Some friends with kids I know seem to be carrying on as normal, and out all the time! Not sure if I’m being over cautious by sticking to outdoor pursuits and essential shops.

I’m more worried about having to isolate frequently than the virus...

To be honest isolation would be more like 6-7 days than 14. My friend got symptoms last Tuesday, eventually got a test on Saturday (day 5) and still waiting for results (now day 8). So by the time test and trace kicks in, anyone who had been in contact with her last Tuesday would have virtually done their (non-isolating) 14 days 🤷🏼‍♀️

@AuntieStella

I think it was pretty clear that we got cakes and ale and circuses in the long days of summer when the sun was strong.

And we need to hunker down for winter.

Feel an idiot now as I didn't really go anywhere over the summer (aside from local outdoor walks and bike rides) until the end of August and was just getting confidence to socialise again and then everything exploded within a week or two, the minute the schools went back.

Resigned to 6 months in the house now, but unless cases are through the roof will try and do more next summer.

Same here. We're not going to eat out, or go anywhere else, where we would need to register our details.

My son is just coming to the end of a 2 week isolation as someone in his class tested positive, it’s been hell! Trying to get him to do his school work whilst trying to work in another room. I work in a school (3 cases so far), two other kids in different schools (1 case in one of the other years) - I don’t fear activities half as much as I fear further school isolations. If we go out for a meal, I can control the distance from other people etc. What I can’t do is control my children and other kids at school. I almost wish they wouldn’t send kids home to isolate. And we’re in a really low number area!

I feel the same. I'm not worried about Covid, I've already had it, I'm worried about having to self isolate (again!)

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 29/09/2020 19:02

I'm so glad I did make the most of the summer though, because I knew it was going to be a long winter.

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 19:11

I'm fairly sure some people who test positive will give close contacts as people they don't like too, or not give names if those who are close contacts if it will impact negatively on them.
I had to give my details the other day so my 5 year old could use the toilet in a restaurant as the public toilets were closed. Was I tempted to give fake details? Very.

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 19:12

I will do my utmost to avoid self isolation.

LindaEllen · 29/09/2020 19:26

I'm the same. I'm not remotely scared of the virus - in fact I've already had it. What I AM scared of is the fact that my finances and business are teetering on the edge, and I cannot afford any more time off. So I avoid going to places like restaurants etc where I could get a text any day telling me I need to isolate.

It's not that I'm 'scared' of going, as such, it's just a realistic truth that I cannot afford any more isolation - but obviously if I had to, I would.

@Treesofwood

“I'm fairly sure some people who test positive will give close contacts as people they don't like too, ”

We’ve wondered this, who corroborates the names? Is it just done on honesty? You don’t get told who it is so wouldn’t know if true or not?!

I read today that there are £1000 fines for people who deliberately give false information, but don’t know how true it is!

Would the isolation kick in from the date of symptoms or the date of contact or the date of confirmed test?
Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 20:26

Soutterlydown Given the person who gets the call cqnn n or be told who the person was that they were in contact with it is going to be pretty difficult to challenge.

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 20:26

Cannot be told

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 20:27

I think it does just rely on honesty. And most people are honest. But not everyone.

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 20:27

Isolation kicks in from contact.

flowerycurtain · 29/09/2020 21:15

We're the same.

Also avoiding ballet, rugby etc as it's mixing schools unnecessarily in my opinion.

As much as I'd love to go out for a meal,
To my clubbercise class and take my kid to rugby none of them are as important to me as 1) keeping our farm going and 2) keeping our kids in education with their friends for as long as possible.

Viv0321 · 07/10/2020 16:29

When would isolation start?
