sorry for weird title.
so local restaurant posted on facebook on that Sunday a staff member had been contacted to say they had been in contact with a positive case.
Today they have posted the staff member is negative so opening as normal.
My question is how long can it take to show as positive...can it not take 14 days?

Presumably the staff member in question is remaining off work (as they are legally required to do so). I hope people are pointing out to the restaurant that testing someone who has been in contact with the virus but doesn't have symptoms is not an appropriate use of testing.
That being said there is absolutely no reason for the restaurant itself to close on the basis that a singular staff member has been in contact with the virus.

Yes, the incubation period is 14 days. I would assume that the staff member is self isolating for 14 days as per the guidelines, but the fact that they tested negative means that the restaurant would not be affected and could open as usual.

they have now said the staff member is back at work. was in contact on Thurs with someone positive ... tested negative Sunday.

If told to self isolate due to confirmed contact with a positive, a negative test makes no difference. The person must still self isolate for 14 days even with a negative test result.

However, no one else apart from said staff member needs to isolate. The cafe can open and operate as normal. The member of staff exposed to a positive should not leave their home for any reason (can work from home, cannot leave their house though).

The restaurant does not understand the procedure and that was a wasted test. Just because he tested negative Sunday doesn't mean he won't be positive today.

Honestly... do people live on another planet? How can people not understand the procedure by now. It's not complicated. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ yes some lockdown rules change but how and why you should get a test in terms of symptoms and isolation never has.

My daughter is having to SI due to a positive in her bubble at school. As a family, we are part of the ONS Covid-19 study and we are all given a swab test once a week, every Sunday.

My DD has had two negative test results from our ONS tests while isolating, but is still required to complete her 14 days self isolation even so.

It's the law (not just the rules).

If the staff member had close contact with a confirmed case they should isolate regardless
