Do you think another national lockdown is on the horizon?

Just that really, I don't know what to think but my anxiety is through the roof - I was just wondering what people thought.

I think there will be so many local lockdowns we will be in a national lockdown by another name.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 28/09/2020 10:06

I hate all the not knowing and feeling this could change at any time.

I personally preferred the idea of certain clearly defined levels and knowing what level we're on like some countries. But I can see lmits not made to suit me!

This.

They'll just lock all mid and large urban areas down, with no non essential travel in/out, so there will be national lockdown by default.

notevenat20 · 28/09/2020 10:08

Not a lockdown like last time no. But a complete ban on going to anyone else's house is likely.

halcyondays · 28/09/2020 10:09

Everywhere will end up going into local lockdown except Barnard Castle.

It wont be like the last one as shops and pubs will stay open to keep taxes coming in, but I think we will be told 'no households mixing' in the next few weeks.

I am dreading it as I am due my second baby in 5 weeks time. I am not sure how I will cope with 2 under 2 without being able to see anyone or even have my mother meet my baby.

Char2015 · 28/09/2020 10:16

Yes, I think so. It should happen now.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 28/09/2020 10:18

They want to keep schools open though?

Im so confusdd.

SqidgeBum · 28/09/2020 10:19

Yes, so people can still go to work and taxes still come in. They cant afford for people not to work, so they will tell us to not see family or friends, but make sure we still go to work every day.
Figgygal · 28/09/2020 10:23

Nope done see it happening
Not unless as a nuclear last ditch option

The local lockdowns aren’t even really lockdowns In comparison to what we had earlier in the year

That's why numbers are not going down fast enough in local lockdowns because everything is pretty much still open.
Sockwomble · 28/09/2020 10:52

I think no households mixing except where money is spent is likely.

Triangularbubble · 28/09/2020 10:59

Depends how you define “lockdown” - I don’t ever see another national ban on more than one outdoor exercise session a day or people being prevented from sitting on grass in parks for example. I think there’s far more evidence on how this is transmitted now and going for a walk or sitting on grass is very low risk. I think schools will limp through winter officially open but with a lot of patchy closures, primary schools at least. I think shops will remain open. But I suspect a ban on household mixing and a shutting down of hospitality and leisure businesses, especially things like soft play and venues selling alcohol, will happen at some point. I imagine non essential travel (holidays) may also be restricted.

SingingSands · 28/09/2020 11:50

No, just lots of "local lockdowns" so essentially no mixing with other households but shops and services open.

Mydarlingsleepthief · 28/09/2020 11:52

I thought we weren’t allowed to mix with other households already?

WalesAppearsToBeSlightlySaner · 28/09/2020 11:54

@SingingSands 2/3 of the Welsh population is already on a social lockdown. No more bubbles or extended households, no exceptions.

orangedrizzle · 28/09/2020 12:00

@SqidgeBum I am in EXACTLY the same situation as you although DS has just turned 2. Scary isn't it!

SqidgeBum · 28/09/2020 12:06

@orangedrizzle it's pretty scary. Also, the idea of being induced and DH not being able to be with me, or more restrictions being imposed in hospitals and being completely alone during the birth. I also had major PND and psychosis after DD1. Being pregnant during lockdown was hard enough. Really dont want to think about whags ahead.

orangedrizzle · 28/09/2020 12:12

@SqidgeBum dm me if you want. It's a very worrying time and I'm quite frankly terrified of the next few months!

Closingtime94 · 28/09/2020 12:17

It's a tough one, I'm five months pregnant and not knowing what lies ahead is the scariest thing. I know the rules and restrictions aren't made with me in mind and Boris isn't gonna text me like "just so you know..." haha but I just feel anxious all the time not knowing what to expect

The local lockdowns don't seem to be working though. Numbers in Bolton are still going up. So either we need to give up with the ideas of lockdown and let it rip through or go back to a stricter March type lock down.

This half assed approach just scuppers the economy, pisses people off and doesn't appear to help. Certainly not to lower rates, though I guess it may be slowing the rise.....but we have no way of knowing if it's slowing the rise?

BarbaraofSeville · 28/09/2020 12:29

Well this is where we appear to be, but as a lot of people will be ignoring the household mixing rules or using relatives for childcare, plus the whole school and university shit show going on, I can't see how we're going to get the virus under control with the measures that are currently in place.

SingingSands · 28/09/2020 12:59

I'm in an area under local lockdown (Leeds) and things seem a little quieter but obviously not as quiet as the "proper" lockdown.

I wonder if there will be some directive about October half term? Hasn't the Scottish government already advised no travel that week? Maybe a chance for people to stay at home and try to curb further spreads?

It's all so unknown isn't it? I feel for you OP, waiting on the arrival of your baby into an uncertain world. Really hoping that 2021 brings us all a better year!

MarshaBradyo · 28/09/2020 13:00

No I can’t see us going back to furlough

Other measures might come in, households etc
