What if it never goes away?

I'm just having massive anxiety tonight- it's doom and gloom. It appears covid keeps flaring, once reopening begins anywhere.

Most days, I feel I can handle anything. Really, as we have no choice. But there are sadly days like today when things become difficult to manage due to the virus being rampant, again.

I also have a hard time staying home and did so during lockdown, cannot imagine feeling so alone again.

How do you keep yourself from feeling alone and afraid of the future?

Out of interest with the Spanish flu were there Any lockdowns? I’d have thought they’d have reached herd immunity quicker so it died out sooner.

I just think we’ll get better at treating it so far less people will die. A vaccine may reduce its severity so that’s one tool in the box. Then drugs will also help prevent the inflammatory response which is so often an issue.

There were lockdowns at various levels that were set by local govt, in fact there have been a lot of studies around how different cities in the US took different approaches and how that affected the number of deaths. I think it has been a fascinating source of data for epidemiologists, and has helped inform policy during this pandemic.

It's not ever going away, the world will never be 'safe'. We'll have 1-2 years of some restrictions while a vaccine can be rolled out to the vulnerable and key workers and then we'll go back to something more or less like before. Although there will be more home working and much reduced international travel as I can't see airlines being bailed out for very long.

Can i make a suggestion OP, that has genuinely helped me?
I suffer anxiety and depression. At the start of lockdown I felt listless, caged in. It was awful. There is only so much binge watching you can do before the novelty wore off.
I took up Gardening. It helped to make me mindful that whilst everything human wise was so unstable, things in nature carried on. Plants adapt to changes in the weather and their surroundings. It was a constant and yes it sounds a bit drippy hippie, but it really helped me, especially when stuff grew and I could then use it in cooking.
I think you need to take time to breathe, to know that yes this is unheard of, but that's a good thing because this will pass eventually, and it will hopefully be something we learn from. As the poem said recently, sometimes you have to get ill to get better. And I carry that with me.
