Hello just wondering if anyone's in a similar situation, my sons 4 and just started reception, his school has been back 10 days and we've already had 1 case and a whole bubble sent home (30 students) would I be able to deregister him and teach him at home without the drama of the school on my back about not sending him in, I'm on the high risk category I think as bmi is 38, we also have a 1 year old and new born and I'm petrified of them getting this :( my 4 and 1 year old get every bug going sons only been able to attend 5 days of school as he brought a sickness bug home, I'm just generally trying to see if anyone's pulled them for the same reasons or if it's easy pulling them, I have terrible mum guilt at the thought of taking him from school as it is, my anxiety is through the roof worrying about this bloody virus as it is, I didn't think we'd get cases so quickly 😔☹️

Lots of support in home ed community and in the Facebook groups, my dd struggled in school, not academically but because of bullying and the anxiety that goes with that. I have only home educated since Y7 but i know other home educators who have done so from the start.
My dd is doing several GCSES now and i feel we are managing very well.
You are welcome to PM me.

No they don't have to be in scholl until the term after they turn 5. But...if thwy do attend school before then they are subject to the same attendance rules/expectations as the rest.

Best bet is to speak to the LA perhaps see what they say if you can't trust the school to be honest

What’s with all the misinformation, guilt tripping and general hyperbole? He’s 4. Not yet compulsory school age. Keep him home this term. No need to deregister. Let him enjoy playing with his siblings.
Agree with this.

Btw, I spoke to an educational solicitor and got legal advice before sending a specific school letter (different issue) it only used half an hour of their time but made me much more confident. So you can ask for support. You can use 15mins free for them to explain your rights anyway.

As PP have said you don't legally have to send him until the term after his 5th birthday however if he is enrolled at the school you can't just not send him until then they have a duty of care to ensure his well being so will check up on him for long term absence. You need to speak to the LEA and admissions department to see if you can defer his place for a while or lose it completely

Exactly what I was going to say. Compulsory school age doesn’t start until the term after he’s five. Keep him home, an unnecessary risk.

Legally you are entitled to start the term after their birthday. So jan/apr etc but apr is the latest to keep the place

Join boycott return to unsafe school. They have a home ed one too

Do a little update we all have to self isolate as I've come down with symptoms of covid waiting for my test results back, I called the school yesterday to give them the update that I've done a test and about home schooling them so would I be able to have the head teachers email or would it be best to send it in a letter to which they replied they'd get the head teacher to call me back, which didn't happen, and then today the head teacher turnt up at my house to go over everything, I didn't think they'd be able to come to my house let alone while we're isolating they asked me to come to the door to talk which obviously isn't ideal yet they kept knocking. So I went to the door and stood back to be told from Monday they will mark him as absence till they receive my letter, i can't go out till I've isolated for 10 days as still have symptoms, so I'm in a no win situation they said they won't accept email form either, any advice.. Can they do this?
