What are the chances of Doris saying no house mingling at Christmas?

What does everyone think? Will he lift restrictions for Christmas goodwill to all men and all that or will he tell us not to mingle unless you have to mingle then only mingle with 1 other household?

Wasn’t Eid cancelled? Why would christmas be different?

Useruseruserusee · 27/09/2020 17:12

I think rule of 6 will still apply. Depends on what happens with the hospitalisation and death rates between now and then. No matter what I hope support bubbles stay.

If it is no mingling between households I would be sad, but hopefully it would just be this one Christmas, as a vaccine is expected next year. So a bit rubbish but in the grand scheme of things nothing I will get too upset about.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 27/09/2020 17:13

Can’t see people sticking to it even if it’s banned at Christmas tbh

pontypridd · 27/09/2020 17:22

Doris - took me a moment to work out who she was. I love it.

PhilCornwall1 · 27/09/2020 17:22

Many will just carry on with Christmas as normal, regardless of what he does.

Because over 95% of the UK celebrates Christmas, including most Athiests but less than 5% Eid. Plus it's a tradition in the UK going back hundreds of years, and well Eid isn't
tappitytaptap · 27/09/2020 17:38

I can’t see widespread compliance even if he does say no mixing. I am sad about no gatherings (or at least large ones) with friends though. Trying to get a few social occasions within the rule of 6 whilst we can!

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 27/09/2020 17:39

I bet Doris would do a better job.

TwentyViginti · 27/09/2020 17:46

Doris will be on one of many holidays and won't give a fuck.

mediumperiperi · 27/09/2020 17:46

I think Noris will suspend the rules. If he doesn't I hope that he keeps the single person support bubble exemption.

HoratiotheHorsefly · 27/09/2020 17:57

I hope mingling is banned.

We had what we believe was Covid over last Christmas, we were all very ill.

So I want to actually be able to eat the food we buy this year, last years went in the bin because none of us could taste a thing.

No fucker is coming near my house Grin

KitKatastrophe · 27/09/2020 17:59

They didnt lift restrictions for Easter or Eid and they arent planning to for Diwali. So I dont think they will make a change with Christmas as the reason, either tightening or loosening restrictions.

NotAKaren · 27/09/2020 17:59

Would it matter? People will just decide for themselves about Christmas, no one pays any attention to Doris & Co. anymore. Aside from this Doris will be busy with chaos at the ports due to Brexit and lots and lots of angry truckers.

Pelleas · 27/09/2020 17:59

From the point of view of stopping virus transmission, that means there's more reason to stop family gatherings at Christmas, not less.

Plus it's a tradition in the UK going back hundreds of years, and well Eid isn't

Ah, well, have a word with your nearest Covid19 molecules and explain that - I'm sure it will respect our long-held traditions. (If only! Sad )

Exactly. Who really gives a toss about what him and his merry bunch of muppets say.
FourTeaFallOut · 27/09/2020 18:17

It's not about things being fair. If covid restrictions are lifted for Christmas it will be because of economic factors and to legitimise what would be the inevitable mass civil disobedience on the matter and maintain the illusion of control.

Talia99 · 27/09/2020 18:23

I’ve booked a refundable hotel and a restaurant for Christmas Day, both of which are legal under the current rules. If we get a ‘no households mingling at all rule, I assume the restaurant wouldn’t let us in, anyway.

Of course, I was planning to travel - if that’s banned it will be microwave chicken on the sofa since I live alone and I’m not doing a full Christmas meal for one.

Are you in Nottinghamshire? That would pre-date the current first community case in England by some weeks, it might be worth getting in touch with PHE for their research
NancyBotwinBloom · 27/09/2020 18:34

It may depend on whether he can afford a nanny and if she wants annual leave or not at Christmas

Mumratheevergiving · 27/09/2020 18:37

@trappedsincesundaymorn so sorry for your loss and I hope you share a special Christmas with your Dad.

I think we can expect Doris to pop up for an announcement at some point dressed in a Santa suit. He will not like how unpopular restrictions over Christmas are going to make him.

meditrina · 27/09/2020 18:42

100% celebrate Chinese New Year in China, but the authorities there still cancelled it. Not quite the entire celebration, but all intercity travel (and going to see your folks is a major part of it)

A big, simultaneous mixing of people from the length and breadth of the country could be quite a big risk. I think there may well be a 'stay local' edict

loulouljh · 27/09/2020 18:45

I suspect they know that no-one would follow the stupid rule anyway so will relax it beforehand in the misguided belief the general public will be all so grateful!

WINDOLENE · 27/09/2020 18:45

Why refer to him by a female name? Are you implying that a woman would make the same choices which you deem to be bad?

MrsKingfisher · 27/09/2020 18:46

I think he'll do the usual thumb on closed fist pointing telling us We..must..keep..going..if..we..are..to..win..the..war..against..covid 19. Then he'll tell us that we can form a bubble with 1 other household totalling no more than 6 so that those alone will have company.
