Self isolating

We have had notification that a child in my DD's class has tested positive for COVID-19. The advice is that all children in the class should self isolate for 14 days. What does that mean to you? I took it to mean she can't leave the house. However, a classmate of hers lives by us and I am pretty sure her whole family, including her, have gone out today. It's entirely possible that they won't come in to contact with anyone else, wherever they've gone, but I still didn't think that was allowed. Or am I being too strict in my interpretation?

You’re right. Your child has to isolate, in the house, for 14 days. Your household doesn’t however, unless they become symptomatic.

No you have it exactly right. She cannot leave the house for 14 days from last contact with the person who tested positive and if possible should isolate away from the rest of the household.

Child should be remaining at home. There would be some exceptions to this such as if they need emergency medical care, emergency in home and individual could not stay there.

Thank you. It's a beautiful day here and I'm feeling terribly guilty that she's stuck at home so I questioned whether I was being over the top and perhaps we could have gone for a walk somewhere quiet.
