Would you send your dc to their childminder if one of the CM's own children had been told to isolate?

CM's child has been told to isolate as someone in his class has tested positive. CM has said that he will not have contact with any of her mindees (presumably he will stay in his room) but would you send your dc?

Public Health look at this on a case by case basis - if she’s allowed to stay open and your place is available you should definitely pay.

HappyPumpkin81 · 27/09/2020 18:40

I absolutely would send my child as I am a single parent, have no other option and need to work or face losing my job.

IpanemaFlowers · 27/09/2020 18:45

You need to pay her. CM are undervalued IMO.

MayIJustAsk · 28/09/2020 08:05

No absolutely not is that even allowed?! Madness.

The problems with payment and if it was CM isolating is that there would be some that would abuse the system and have regular isolation periods when they don't even have symptoms. And in other cases where they are being legit, they still may have to regularly isolate especially if they have their own children so you would end up paying when there were regular closures. It's a difficult one.

Her covid policy didn't specify what would happen in this scenario...

I would ask for some clarity around this to be honest, regarding payment as well. Things like this are likely to rear their head several times over the winter, and best to get it squared away.

I just checked and the government advice for childcare providers doesn't cover this scenario! However this guidance does - although doesn't have a definite answer. Some helpful guidance though:

How can the government not have considered this scenario Confused

Where I live the whole household (west of Scotland) has to self isolate for 14 days, not just the person who has been in contact with an infected person. My DD was sent home to isolate as someone in her class has it, as a result everyone in my house also has to self isolate for 14 days too. So on that basis I would say no. I wouldn’t send in a child if I could help it.

I am hoping this restriction is eased at some point and goes back to just the person who has been in contact and not the whole household- I can’t see our workplaces being too happy if we are forever needing to isolate as it makes it’s way through the 30 odd kids in DDs class.

The Government hasn't really considered childminders the whole way through this. They don't seem to realise that we work from our own homes....last Thursday including my own dc there were 10 of us here after school which was fine as I was working, but I had to cancel Friday night drinks with my 6 friends as at 5.30 when I closed for the weekend I had to go back to the rule of 6 until 7.15 Monday morning!!

I'm a cm and add I understand it the guidelines for this situation are being set in a council by council basis. In my area of my child's bubble (senior school 200+!) have to isolate u must call the council's special phone number and they will tell me what to do. I guess if it looks like it's bubbling up in the area will be told to close where as if there's only a couple of cases they may say it's ok to stay open with extra precautions. Possible also depends on if they've had any contact say all with the cv.+ child.
