Positive test... I'm struggling

Been feeling unwell for about a week, thought it was just a cold (been working from home so isolating anyway). Went for a test on Friday and results are positive. I feel really scared and my anxiety has really kicked off. I am 38, no underlying issues and generally fit and well but I am so scared. One day I feel okay and the next I am exhausted and feel like I can't breathe.
Anyone with any positives, who have had it and now okay? How long did it take?
Thanks

I remember a thread on here with posters going through similar but can't find it, if anyone could please link

Based on age & sex, the odds of it being a mild cold for you are about 99.9%. Do you normally worry about a 0.1% risk something bad might happen?

SurgeonsWife82 · 27/09/2020 10:01

@lljkk I am quite a worrier yes. I think it's after reading so many stories Sad

I've been in your position last March.

Have you got a pulse oximeter to test your oxygen levels and heart rate? Headaches are the worst. It was peak and trough- sometimes I felt ok and sometimes I felt terrible. I kept the windows open to have some ventilation.

I slowly got better after two weeks. Drink plenty and take some rest. Speak to 111 or to

nuttynutjob · 27/09/2020 10:04

Speak to 111 if you feel your symptoms are not getting better.

Harencha · 27/09/2020 10:08

I'd feel the same in your position but remembering the stats should help (and remembering we don't have the same thought process with a flu!).

If I get a positive, I will isolate myself to bed and rest lots, giving my body the best chance to fight it and eat really well during that time but with whatever I fancy if food is a struggle. Even with a cold I find if I do OTT rest for a day or two I fight it off really fast so just be kind to yourself and try to make it a cosy event and just think how confident you can be over winter knowing you had it once and fought it off quite easily!

You won't need to worry about your personal risk of catching it again (though will still have to stick to the rules obviously) as most evidence points to people not being reinfected. You're winter should be much better mentally for knowing you've had it and got it out of the way, try to see that as a positive. Also, hospitalisation are not dramatically up but should you need to go to hospital, better now than when they're rocketing!

Lots of fluids and rest xx

Thank you @nuttynutjob
That's how I feel; one day I feel like I'm doing okay and then next I have a awful headache and backache when I breathe. How are you now, are you completely back to feeling yourself

It was the 'My Lungs' threads.
Hopefully you are a week or so in now so the worst is over. I second getting a pulse oximeter as this measures your oxygen saturation levels and can be very reassuring when you're breathless. Also a thermometer. Lots of water and rest.

SurgeonsWife82 · 27/09/2020 10:10

Thank you @Harencha your post has helped.

I'm worried about passing to DH and DC, although I do think maybe I caught from DC as his class bubble closed last week and lots of children from his class been positive since

Yes I’ve had it - I’m 53 no health issues. Couple of weeks I was absolutely fine - worst thing was feeling tired.

Bad headache and generally achey for couple of days.

Worrying could account for all your symptoms- if you felt like you had a cold before your test in all likelihood if you exclude the anxiety that’s how you feel now.

Rest, lots of fluids, paracetamol, isolate yourself from household members (remember they need to isolate for 14 days).

There is no reason to believe you won’t make a full recovery.

Alfiemoon1 · 27/09/2020 10:17

I would feel the same op. Plenty of rest and fluids and try and look at the positives which is difficult when you feel crappy and with covid all over the news but you are young and fit and unlikely to have any serious complications. Hope you feel better soon

nuttynutjob · 27/09/2020 10:31

Not going to lie to you, I'm experiencing breathlessness and palpitations whenever I exert a little effort (stair climbing, brisk walking). The symptoms doesn't last long but I never had breathlessness and palpitations before covid.

I experienced hair loss 6 weeks after the fever (it's stopped now). I've also started to see the GP - had xray, blood test. No discussion yet as to the results.
I feel better when I keep myself active and I also try to keep positive thoughts.

When I was ill, I was breastfeeding by son. Husband and children didn't get any symptoms at all and husband tested negative for antibodies.

Look after yourself. You'll get through this. Flowers

MrsBennetsnerves · 27/09/2020 11:40

I had long covid. Late 50s and fat. I'm back to doing some exercise now - the only lingering symptom is that it's triggered asthma which runs in my family anyway. There's no reason to assume that it won't be of short duration for you, OP. Rest is key and you may find that you're mentally as well as physically fatigued so just be gentle with yourself. I isolated from DH for a week as that was the advice at the time and if he had it at all, it was asymptomatic. As another poster mentioned, now is not a bad time to catch it compared with later in winter when the NHS may be under more strain.

Jrobhatch29 · 27/09/2020 12:49

I can imagine alot of people will feel like that when they receive a positive result. If you started feeling unwell a week ago you will most likely be feeling better soon.

ohfucketty · 27/09/2020 13:02

If you haven't already, get yourself some high strength Vitamin C and D.

I also recommend chicken soup, garlic, elderberry syrup - all good anti-virals. Lots of rest, healthy food.

Don't stress.

What does the back pain feel like?
