Drive through corona virus test

Can anyone tell me what happens at a drive through corona virus test? I'm taking my 4 year old tomorrow for a continuous cough, just want to be able to prepare him.
I'm pretty sure it's a cold but for him to go to nursery and for us to go to work we need a negative test.

When we went as we drove up someone held a sign up asking us not to open our windows and to call a phone number listed on the sign. They talked to us over the phone to give us further instructions. We then drove on to a second person who had us wind down the window a little bit and passed the test kit through. It had full instructions inside the kit. After we had completed it we drove to a third person and dropped the completed test into a box.

It says in the test kit to swab throat and nostrils but I believe with a young child you can just do the nostrils.

Thank you, how long did it take to get your results?

We had it done Wednesday lunchtime and it was back about 20 hours later.

Drive in, they scan the QR code.

Drive to next bit, they give you test kit through slightly open window and tell you where to go, and that under 11s can be nose swabs only if you like. Advise you to turn on hazard lights if you need assistance.

Follow directions to park up. Read booklet. Swab child (oh so simple Confused - good luck!) Hazards on when done, they check your kit, seal it & drive out.

We did a test about 11am Weds & had results about 6pm Thurs.

At a hospital last week I had to do my three year old. She had it at the back of her throat then up her nose. I did it, not the nurse. The nurse watched me to make sure I'd did it correctly. The throat one was fine but she hated the bit up the nose. I would just take some chocolate buttons and give him a hug when it's over. It's not too bad.

Go to the gov.uk website and book one

Exactly as pp have said. Once you have the kit and park up, sit and read the instructions before you climb into the back to take the swab from his nose.

Dd was tested at lunchtime, results came through at 7am the next day. So she only missed one day of school (her cough started on the Monday evening)

At the one I went to we were given the choice of doing the test ourselves or having someone do it for us. We chose to have them do it as we had already had one failed test so wanted to be sure it was done right. That was Monday lunchtime, still waiting for the result.

Plenty of videos and guides online. Have a Google.

Was that for adults? We've had to take DS twice and been told that they're not allowed to do them on children so you have no choice but to clamber into the back of the car and do your best.

DebbieFiderer · 30/09/2020 10:23

Yes, it was for an adult, haven't had to take a child so not sure what the rule is there.

After the experience with my 6yo throwing up everywhere on Friday I really would recommend doing up both nostrils than throat.

He had the test at 10.30am Friday, result 3am saturday
