Loads more ambulance sirens or is it my imagination?

I feel like over the last couple of weeks I've been hearing more and more sirens, it was like that in march as well. I don't know if its related to covid or just my imagination (although I'm not especially anxious about it). I am in an area with higher numbers.

Anyone else noticed this?

More here too. Not today though as windows shut

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 26/09/2020 21:35

We had quite a few of these threads back in March

LadyCatStark · 26/09/2020 21:46

Could it be police cars? The police were out in force in our nearest town centre tonight but I guess they wouldn’t need blue lights. We’re very rural around here and if you hear a siren your know it’s a road traffic accident sadly.

ravensoaponarope · 26/09/2020 21:53

@Crunchymum I'm so sorry.

Giganticshark · 26/09/2020 22:00

I live next to an ambulance station, there is definitely more going out now than there was 2 months ago

ClashCityRocker · 26/09/2020 22:04

I've heard a few more sirens than usual these last few days.

I was imagining the police tearing full blues and twos to a local family of six who had invited granny round for tea...

Turns out we've just had a spate of RTAs (no-one killed or seriously injured, thankfully) according to the local press.

Rushjob · 26/09/2020 22:20

Only on Mumsnet would people be linking the amount of sirens to Covid cases 🙄

It could be an increase in accidents especially now as it’s darker earlier etc. Or result of people who haven’t had other surgeries or those who have been scared senseless and have been afraid to go to doctors.

Or it could just be it is what it is. 😏

Babyroobs · 26/09/2020 22:23

I thought exactly the same this week and mentioned it to my husband. It feels exactly like it did when we first went into lock down. Also it seems everywhere I go people are coughing, could just be my imagination !

Adirondack · 27/09/2020 00:21

@Crunchymum I am so sorry for your loss Flowers

Fallowdeerhunter · 27/09/2020 00:41

There’s only a few hundred people being admitted per day across the whole country and almost all of these won’t be blue lights. Come on, think

catsarecute · 27/09/2020 00:47

I was reading your post and about to say no...then I heard a siren going past! High risk area here. I haven't especially noticed more sirens I have to say, and I am anxious about it.

Torvean32 · 27/09/2020 04:03

I live across from an ambulance disoatch centre. Definitely not any more busy.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 27/09/2020 05:43

Probably the poor people having heart attacks and strokes that aren't going in with the first signs because of Covid and now getting critical

Back in March i was freaked out by the amount of ambulances on the road/ i drive a lot for my job -the roads were so quiet due to lockdown, it was just me and the ambulances! Oh and a police mobile speed camera which freaked me out even more! Why have a speed camera during a pandemic lockdown
Also where i live back in March i could only hear the sound of bird song and sirens from my garden. I found it very unnerving at the time.
Thankfully I have not noticed an increase in sirens yet. I have been looking out for the change. i live in very hi risk area. Prob highest in Uk. I know its a strange thing to use as a gauge of covi but i dont think its at the march level yet.

moominmomma1234 · 27/09/2020 05:59

I know some of you are laughing us, but humans do notice changes in patterns in things, its human nature, yes its neurotic, maybe its a survival trait to observe the world around us

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 27/09/2020 05:59

Oh and a police mobile speed camera which freaked me out even more! Why have a speed camera during a pandemic lockdown

We needed those during lockdown even more, all the idiots round our way were using the roads as race tracks because of the lack of traffic, a few speed cameras would have been a good thing

Ah maybe although the camera was 9am on a Sunday morning, they might of been out in the evening too to catch the racers
Forgone90 · 27/09/2020 06:28

They would r be for covid anyway, the majority of people will Be on Normal ward befor being considered an emergency.

eaglejulesk · 27/09/2020 06:39

@Crunchymum - sorry to hear about your Mum Flowers Flowers

FatimaMunchy · 27/09/2020 06:58

My friend's daughter is a paramedic. They are getting a lot of drink,/drug related shouts and more road traffic incidents, but not many Covid19 related ones.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 27/09/2020 07:02

i believe so, unless i notice more, but i definitely notice them

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 27/09/2020 07:04

i think you are wrong there @Rushjob
an ambulance went by last night and i said to DH, there goes another covid, it was tongue in cheek, is this because I use mumsnet?
i doubt it

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 27/09/2020 07:05

Sad sorry for your loss @Crunchymum Thanks

PhilCornwall1 · 27/09/2020 07:28

I can imagine the CMO popping up a graph and then saying "as you can see, there is a noticeable uptick in sirens being heard across all areas".

🤔

movingonup20 · 27/09/2020 07:30

There was a lot of sirens yesterday later (back onto the main road into town) and I imagined they were police going to remove the stroppy drinkers refusing to leave pubs
