Does my DM need to isolate

I tested positive this morning. Does My mum, who doesn't live with me but is in my bubble, have to self isolate?

I see her daily, obviously not since I've been isolating but just had results today and unsure about my mum. Will she have to stay off work

of course. She is direct contact with you and you see her daily. I hope you make a speedy recovery :)

yellowsun · 26/09/2020 12:40

When did you last see her? She needs to isolate now but track and trace should be able to advise you further.

Toothsil · 26/09/2020 12:41

Yes, without a doubt. Hope you don't feel too awful Flowers

AliciaWhiskers · 26/09/2020 12:45

If you saw her in the 48 hours before your symptoms started (or since your symptoms started) then yes, she needs to isolate for 14 days.

PaquitaVariation · 26/09/2020 12:49

If she has spent more than 15 minutes within 2 metres of you in the last 48 hours then yes she does. Otherwise no.

StellaGib · 26/09/2020 12:51

Yes, usually it's your household and support bubble. If you see her daily then I'll assume you saw her in the two days before you developed symptoms?

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 26/09/2020 12:51

It doesnt matter trying to work out when you saw her and for how long

If you have formed a support bubble and someone has symptoms/tests positive the whole bubble self isolate

This is the disadvantage of having a bubble but the emotional and other advantages must weigh out the disadvantage

SBTLove · 26/09/2020 12:52

10 days self isolation from when you last had contact with her.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 26/09/2020 12:52

A bubble plus a household is classed as 1 household

This and it’s 14 days, not 10
Yetiyoga · 26/09/2020 13:02

@SBTLove 14 days.

SBTLove · 26/09/2020 13:02

@Coffeeandaride
Our local schools are advising 10 if positive case in a class.

DamitJanet · 26/09/2020 13:02

Yes, she’s your support bubble and so in that sense is considered same household, your household has to isolate for 14 days (not 10 as stated above, you isolate for 10 days, or longer if you continue to have symptoms)

Yetiyoga · 26/09/2020 13:03

@SBTLove presumably 10 school day? So 14 days.

SBTLove · 26/09/2020 13:04

No10 days total. A friends child has a class with a positive child and was allowed back after 10 including weekend and negative test.

AliciaWhiskers · 26/09/2020 13:08

They must have worked out how long 14 days was since they last had contact with the case. That may have worked out as only needing to be off school for 10 days, but it may (should) have been 14 days since they had contact with the case
DamitJanet · 26/09/2020 13:08

The child who tested positive would be allowed to return after ten days (though pointless if the rest of the class is closed) but if the remainder of the bubble have been sent home as they’re deemed to be close contacts then the school are wrong and not following NHS/government guidelines. Close contacts should be isolating for 14 days. (In England at least)

Lockdownseperation · 26/09/2020 13:10

It’s 10 day isolating if you have symptoms plus you need to be fever free for 24 hours. If you are isolating due to a contact testing positive then you need to isolate for 14 days from when the person received their positive test.

SBTLove · 26/09/2020 13:12

@AliciaWhiskers
nope it was 10 days from being in class together, no symptoms. I did wonder it should have been 14. All is well she had a negative test.

Then they have done it incorrectly. And a negative test during the 14 day incubation period is meaningless. Someone could still be incubating the virus but have a negative result.

yellowsun · 26/09/2020 13:31

With the schools thing- PHE advise schools about the number of days the bubble need to be off. It’s 14 days for the children in the bubble from when the symptoms started. So, if a child got symptoms but it took a few days for the positive test result to come through, the rest of the bubble would then isolate but only until the 14 days from when the original symptoms If the positive person started.

yellowsun · 26/09/2020 13:31

*of the positive person started.
