The 10pm closing has indeed made people just go out earlier.

They see it as a challenge not a warning. Sad

middleager · 25/09/2020 16:49

Or continue the party elsewhere...
I agree.

Also, groups all leaving closely together at 10pm rather than staggered timings.

crimsonlake · 25/09/2020 16:58

Exactly, this is what I thought straight away.

LetsPlayAGame20 · 25/09/2020 17:06

Yes dh finished work late this week and he drive past our local at 9.55 and there were loads walking out in groups.
I live near a hight street with a spoons and lots of ' back street boozers' who had lock ins during lockdown, no distancing. People dancing on tables etc. I know this as dh used to dj on one of the bars and the customers shared pics.

You can't stop the feckless unless you literally lock them up. They'll find a way.

10pm curfew will quieten down city centres and high streets during the weekend. Maybe not in the afternoon but by definition nights out are finished.

lurker101 · 25/09/2020 17:24

Yes it was always going to be like this, and more after parties I imagine! Much better to have went with NI and restrict households meeting up in domestic settings I think

onedayinthefuture · 25/09/2020 20:54

I don't go out anymore but when I was in my 20s, I was out clubbing every weekend, during the week sometimes. Wouldn't even leave the house sometimes until gone 9..... I'd be gutted now.

Yetiyoga · 25/09/2020 21:03

I think lots of these people would have already be out at that time anyway. They are just posting about it to make a joke. Yes jt may make some, but i do think it will help in some ways. Wales have a good idea by also banning the sale of alcohol after 10pm.

BigChocFrenzy · 25/09/2020 21:06

Soon there will be complaints that London etc are "ghost cities" because of the curfew

.... often by the same people now claiming noone will obey

isthismylifenow · 25/09/2020 21:12

I'm not in the UK, but what time do pubs close normally? I was thinking it was 11pm.

Here in my country we had a complete ban of alcohol all through top levels of lockdown and we also had a set 10pm curfew for being out until recently. It's 12am now.

I am just thinking that the 10pm curfew can't be too much different from normal pubs hours.

LetsPlayAGame20 · 25/09/2020 21:31

It's generally 11/12 but nightclubs 3am round here.. Couple all night

Just nipped to the cashline. Our high street was absolutely deserted.

Have the night clubs been open?
Brunt0n · 26/09/2020 07:55

I mean yeah, scum will think like that.
Decent people not so much.
Difficult to legislate for people who would take the piss no matter what

CKBJ · 26/09/2020 08:04

“Have the nightclubs been open”

Well technically no they were never allowed to reopen but they managed to get around it by re licensing as bars with opening times until 3am, quieter music and people sat at tables. Social media posts contradicts this!

HoneyBee03 · 26/09/2020 08:14

There are some bars now offering happy hour on cocktails starting at 10am, or BOGOF drinks from 5pm in response to the curfews. It's bizarre that the government believe closing them at 10pm is going to make any difference whatsoever.

DamitJanet · 26/09/2020 09:16

Some will be going out earlier to get round the reduced hours certainly. Others will be making social media posts for effect. There will be an overall effect of reducing gatherings in bars though I think. The idiots who will carry on the party at home would have behaved like idiots whatever the rules though.

Ginkypig · 26/09/2020 10:43

The basic facts are if the restrictions put in place don't begin to lower the numbers, wether that's because they weren't effective in the first place or because people chose to bypass them or for an entirely different then the result will be tighter and tighter restrictions eventually resulting in proper lockdown until whatever is put in place does stop cases rising.

middleager · 26/09/2020 10:46

I'm still not sure this is the solution anyway.

While transmission in pubs and restaurants accounts for 5% of cases (Fiona Bruce said on Question Time) there is so much emphasis on this, where community and care homes and now schools remain the top places of transmission.
