Being asked to wear a mask on playground at school pickup

Just had an email from primary school to say only one person allowed to pick up and they must wear a mask. It seems to have come from our local council so I am wondering if this is the case in other areas.
I have to say it seems a bit much as we are all outdoors, spaced out and we already have a staggered kick out time.

we were asked this week to start doing this i was surprised it wasn't from day one tbh

Agree, just wear the mask. It's only for a short time compared to many who have to wear it 35-40 hours a week in hot buildings. Unfortunately, parents may be really good at SD in your DC's school, it isn't the same everywhere.

The primary teachers are wearing masks inside all day! That's the thing!

One of our local schools. If u don't have mask you have to stand in a big 'I don't have a mask square' seperate from the others and your child gets brought out last..

about bloody time I say.

As I drive past our local school there is no way the parents can properly distance on the pavement, gates or playground.

I agree with you to an extent OP but my DH went out this morning at school drop off time and said the pavements etc were really busy with mums and dads dropping kids off. He said about half were wearing masks - although I generally don't think there's much of a risk outside, it's probably not a bad thing to wear a mask outside if it's really busy like that.

Not here yet. If it does as the weather gets colder I might just wear a balaclava so i dont have to do my hair in the morning. Bonus

Well that's just stupid, shouldn't they get rid of the risky (and potentially at risk) person first?

I think social distancing is far more effective outside. If people wear masks and start conversations they will end up standing nearer people to hear and shout louder and the risk of transmission would increase rather than decrease.

France and Spain have been asking people to wear masks outside in cities etc and their covid cases are rising fast.

We have this rule at our school too. There’s not much science behind it I don’t think and the risk of transmission outside is very low. But whatever, I’ll just do it.

Yes, we have been asked to wear a mask at primary school pick up and drop off in the playground for a week or so now.

Masks at school pick-up and drop off were bought into my son’s primary school about 2 weeks ago.

The only difference it’s made is that nobody socially distances anymore. It’s true what they say, it gives people a false sense of security and makes them less bothered about being near people.

Prior to the masks the Head would stand at the gate and let us in one by one to ensure there was enough a gap between the last parent and the next one but that’s all stopped now. Since masks were bought in it seems to be a free-for-all with no regard for distancing.

Yes. Our school does the same. It’s working quite well and feels safe and doable.

It is the rule at our school. Perfectly reasonable I would say. It didn't, however, apply to the maskless twat this morning who refused to follow the one way system designed by the school because it might make his drop off 30 seconds longer. His poor child was so embarrassed.

We've been wearing them for about a fortnight. If anything it's had a negative effect as the social distancing has gone completely out of the window.

Sounds like a good idea. Our school doesn't have a formal rule but most parents wear masks or shields at pick up.

Our son’s school brought the requirement in this week that parents have to wear masks, which makes sense as it can get busy. Our daughter’s nursery hasn’t, but it’s much smaller and there aren’t as many children or parents milling around. I do anyway if it’s busy

@CovidChristmas

Did I say I wasn’t going to wear the mask? Just curious if it is the general rule.

It isn't a rule at all, it's a request.

Only one parent to pick up at our school and only nursery, p1 and p2 parents allowed in the playground. P3-4 parents are on Main street and p5-7 mostly walk themselves home or meet a parent part way.

Been doing this at my daughter's school from day one of return in September.

No masks cause above rules mean no crowding.

Where is that @justoffshift, I am surprised that all Primary school teachers are wearing masks at your school. Not asking for the name of the school by the way, just general region

Why wouldn’t you? Not everyone is always spread apart, I’m sure you know this. It’s a small simple thing to do to help stop the spread. Will also give those vulnerable parents a little more confidence too.

Just out of curiosity, for those of you where the rule has been implemented already, are most parents wearing them? Are many children wearing them too?

@Frazzled13

For goodness sake. Just wear the bloody mask. It is for a few moments, it could save someone getting ill or dying.

Ffs. She hasn’t said she isn’t going to wear one! Are people not allowed to think “this seems a bit much” without being accused of not caring if someone dies.

Complaining suggests she isn't happy about it.
