Wales half term holiday cottage- anyone else??

ChickenNotSoLittle · 25/09/2020 08:57

We’ve booked a holiday cottage in Pembrokeshire over half term- we booked it immediately after a stress free 10 days in France at the end of July when the future of holiday bookings seemed to be improving...

Anyway, what do you think are the chances of travel to Wales being allowed ( we are in SE England)?

Anyone in a similar situation?

We’ve got some Covid cover within the insurance but if the government forbids travel it’ll be up to the agency to help us rebook ( we chose a company which advertise their helpfulness in this area).

Not feeling worried about cancelling/ postponing but wanted to chat about possible outcomes.

Anyone similarly affected who also thought booking a half term cottage was a good idea?!

Obviously October is a different ball game though.
My family live in Wales and expecting not to see them for a while as I am not able to return in the next few weeks and I feel a widespread welsh lockdown may be in place by half term..i hope I am wrong though.

All very confusing...this article suggests it’s fine to go?

Missfelipe, I followed your link and came across this rather shocking story!

Oh! I hadn’t heard about this!!! Really poor behaviour...the article does suggest further down that it’s fine so long as you are with your own household...unfortunately if these idiots continue that may not be possible either!

ChickenNotSoLittle · 25/09/2020 11:39

She’s it’s wry irresponsible behaviour but I find it extraordinary that this was allowed by the Welsh authorities!

It's frustrating, as someone who had to cancel their holiday because of a local Welsh lockdown, that people from lockdown areas in England are still allowed to travel. Our numbers are reducing locally but what's the point if it can be brought in from other areas?

Viv0321 · 25/09/2020 11:47

Barber- doesn’t make sense does it.

nettytree · 25/09/2020 11:50

I'm in caerphilly and have a holiday near Portsmouth booked for half term. I am leaving it one more week to see if the lockdown ends, but will probably have to postpone it. Been looking forward to the hot tub.

Pembrokeshire at the moment is not in local lockdown and I can currently travel and stay there as where I live in Wales is also not in lockdown.

I can travel through an area in lockdown but I can't stop in the area, even for petrol. Stopping has to be a for a very good reasons, which are set out clearly. So if you aren't in lockdown and the area you want to go to in Wales isn't in lockdown under the current rules you can travel between them. Just make sure you're aware where there are restrictions and don't stop in those local authorities.

Pembrokeshire is lovely. I haven't been there since February, but everywhere I've been in Wales is well organised. Just make sure you book if you want to eat out in popular places. Enjoy your break if you decide to go.

cologne4711 · 25/09/2020 11:55

Aren't they talking about that "circuit breaker" lockdown at half term?

I was considering going to Wales in half term about 3 weeks ago but I think events have overtaken me. Such a shame, I was just reading the chat about the Wirral on the chat board and thinking how lovely a trip was last year when we stayed near Ellesmere Port and visited Liverpool and North Wales.

Viv0321 · 25/09/2020 12:50

The first minister said that he welcomes tourism.

Viv0321 · 25/09/2020 18:26

More areas of south wales are going into lockdown.

WalesAppearsToBeSlightlySaner · 25/09/2020 18:53

Pembrokeshire is very different from the areas going into lockdown.

Toastycornflakes · 25/09/2020 19:21

Hopefully you’ll be ok with Pembrokeshire not having high cases at the moment. You are currently allowed to go on holidays here in wales, it’s not against the law to take non essential journeys in areas not in lockdown. I’m in north wales and we have booked centre parks in Lake District for the 16th Oct. we can cancel and get a full refund or rebook as long it’s before the 10th so we’re waiting to see what happens. Only thing is if we have a national 2 week lockdown over half term which I’ve seen mentioned a lot.

Starlightstarbright1 · 26/09/2020 22:07

i currently in North wales, rules seem to be followed far more than when i was in Mablethorpe end of August.

Not sure whether it will have any influence on the outcome but feels more optimistic
