What style of mask let’s you talk without impediment?

I’m really struggling with the rapid conversation required in the school run queue and any of the masks I have 😬. I end up inhaling the bloody things or them riding up or riding down and I end up fiddling with it when I want to just leave it alone.

I also need one that works with glasses. Mine keep steaming up constantly. Any recommendations ?

I end up inhaling the bloody things You could look into singers' masks. They are designed to stand clear of the mouth so you don't inhale cloth.

Glasses: - definitely one with a nose wire, and mould it round your nose quite high up, just below your glasses. If you've already got masks without nose wires, you can buy packs of nose wires with sticky strips to stick them to masks.

If you're having difficulty with them slipping out of place, you might do better with a pleated one rather than a shaped one - clip the top to your ose, and tuck the bottom under your chin and it shouldn't move.

I second Tartan - they fit really well, and I like the adjustable ones because you can fit them exactly to your proportions. The two layer ones are lighter but they also do a filter pocket version. No issues with glasses.

I have also got a couple of pleated ones I made myself but I'm not happy with the fit when I'm wearing my glasses.

@Rushjob

People have been told any bit of old cloth is fine but then are told the respirator ones aren’t??!

FFS

Yes. Respirators are PPE i.e. they protect the wearer. Face coverings protect surfaces and other people from the wearer.

To be fair the government’s messaging about this has been woeful so it’s no surprise you’re confused.
Visors are 100% ineffective? Not necessarily. www.bbc.com/future/article/20200806-are-face-shields-effective-against-covid-19
That’s a terrible article that fails to differentiate between protection of the wearer (quite good, especially if worn with a mask), and protection of others from the wearer (fairly ineffective, especially if the wearer is moving around).

Our public suppression strategy is primarily of the “keep your bugs to yourself” variety, rather than the “protect yourself from others” approach.

I used it simply to point out that visors are not necessarily 100% ineffective.

Re visors Vs masks, the thing we need to be doing is Say It Don't Spray It - if it won't stop any accidental spittle reaching other people it's not fit for purpose - so visors should be worn over masks, and masks with exhalation valves should stay in the DIY store.
