Partner going to Spain...we all have to self isolate??

My partner is going to Spain in a week or so for a few days to see friends. He says when he gets back he won't self isolate per se, but he works from home and will continue to do so for the two weeks and exercise by himself.

Does this mean me and DD who live with him will have to self isolate for 14 days? Meaning I will be taking 2 weeks off work? AIBU or is he selfish?

You can carry on as normal, only your partner needs to isolate.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 24/09/2020 13:06

Tell him to self isolate somewhere else!!!! Why should you lose 2 weeks pay!!!!

Racoonworld · 24/09/2020 14:29

He needs to properly self isolate, they are getting stricter from a Monday with larger fines and more checks. You don’t need to isolate though as you aren’t going, only if he develops symptoms

Ponoka7 · 24/09/2020 14:31

He is being selfish because non essential travel shouldn't be happening and we knew what was coming this winter. How will he exercise? If it's Jogging or cycling near people then he shouldn't be doing it.

The ideal would be a test on returning home, but it depends on how many tests are available.

You don't have to isolate and this is how it will spread again, globally.

Palavah · 24/09/2020 14:33

Bizarrely, you don't, unless he or one of you develops symptoms.

RancidOldHag · 24/09/2020 14:36

He'll need to exercise on his own premises - it's self isolation (not lockdown rules). We saw lots of examples of how people got creative and did that earlier in the year (marathons on balconies etc) so for 14 days it's totally do-able.

He needs to isolate within the home, which can be difficult to achieve (easier if you have two bathrooms and are prepared to deliver food to his room and clear detritus, washing hands afterwards) and are happy to keep all windows open all the time - not downstairs overnight, but you get my drift).

If he can't/won't comply, then he should isolate elsewhere

Waste of a test, as the incubation period ranges up,to,14 days. A negative test does not release you from quarantine

@Ponoka7 Weren't you defending Boris Johnson's girlfriend for going on holiday an hour ago? Was her travel essential?

lifesalongsong · 24/09/2020 15:01

No need to take two weeks of work but he sounds selfish and hard of thinking, isolation means stay in the house, does he really not understand that?

WwMILd · 24/09/2020 15:57

Within your accommodation
The people you’re staying with do not need to stay at home, unless they travelled with you.

If you’re staying in a hotel or guest house, you must stay away from others who didn’t travel with you, so it’s important that you don’t use shared areas such as bars, restaurants, health clubs and sports facilities. Stay 2 metres apart from other people staying there at all times.

It’s important to avoid as much contact with other people as possible in your home in order to reduce the risk of transmitting coronavirus. You should stay in a well-ventilated room with a window to the outside that can be opened, separate from other people in your home.

He needs to isolate within the household but on the basis that he shouldn't be coming into contact with you or your daughter there is no need for either of you to isolate unless he develops symptoms.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 24/09/2020 16:05

You don't need to self isolate. Carry on as normal.
