Face masks - for kids

I didn't know where to start this thread! Can anyone recommend some face coverings for suitable and comfortable for younger kids (ages 5 & 8). 8 year old has been wearing an adult one but it's a bit big and not that fun a design, 5 year old doesn't currently have one but I want her to have one now and she is keen.

Where can we find comfortable ones for kids?

Why are your children that age needing masks? They're not required in primary school, they arent required outside of school, children that age are incredibly low risk.

I bought a couple for my five year old from Etsy, we had fun picking designs and he gets on really well with it.

Just because they don’t have to wear one doesn’t mean they can’t. In my case we’d explained why we would be wearing masks, and why he’s see them out and about and he asked to do they same, to do his bit etc. Can’t see any harm in that.

My grandsons's mask was made by a local lady. He's 3 and asked for one. He calls the his ninga masks.

In Scotland our kids age 5 and up have been wearing them for months. Home Bargains have kid sized ones, and in England too as I first saw them there when visiting family. Or you can find them online.

EvilPea · 24/09/2020 12:01

Red bubble have some great ones and do junior sizes.

From seeing kids out they want to wear them as everyone else is.

DeanImpala67 · 24/09/2020 12:02

I got my child's masks from eBay, they are good quality and wash well and they had a choice of patterns. My DD is at secondary school and has to wear one in communal areas, she also has a small head/face so adult ones didn't fit. I believe Boots and Gap have childrens masks too.

MagpieSong · 24/09/2020 12:26

We ordered one homemade and one from amazon, they can facilitate filters. Mine finds them relatively comfortable, but said they took time to get used to. One thing I have found is it's quite tricky for my 5yo to remember not to touch the mask (except when putting it on/removing it) and to wash hands thoroughly after touching it - so we've gone through this lots of times together and I keep an eye when he's wearing it.

Children copy adults.

I've been in the supermarket and saw a toddler wearing one - though incorrectly. My own toddler demands to wear one and has tried one on a few times at home.

They sell them everywhere from Primark to Seasalt.

You'll just have to figure out which ones fit your child.

Mrsjayy · 24/09/2020 12:37

Super drug, the Entertainer toyshop and B&M all have kids masks.

@Blackforesthotchoc perhaps the OP is in Scotland where children do have to wear masks in shops, cinema's, cafe's etc. The rules in Scotland are anyone over 5

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 24/09/2020 15:02

Have a look on Etsy?

Trackandtrace · 24/09/2020 15:13

Loads of nice ones on amazon. We have masks, filters for inside and shields for children. Child primary age wheres no problem but wont wear sheild.
Preschooler will only wear mask for very short times but wears shield no problem.

Blackforest children can and are getting covid and children are hospitalises with it and children can be very ill and die.
Id rather the risk was reduced as no one can be sure how anyone will react if they get virus

@EvilPea
Please avoid Red Bubble as they are a morally vacant company that thinks it is perfectly acceptable to ignore copyright law and profit off of other peoples designs.

Oh no. Don’t say that. We always buy stuff from them, partly as I thought they were ok in that regard

Bollocks.

movingonup20 · 24/09/2020 15:40

Look on American sites, they are wearing them from 3 so more available. My friends dd has cute animal ones with whiskers!

peakotter · 24/09/2020 15:42

My kids love buffs/snoods. Wear them all day if we’re out, they’re so easy to pull up and not get lost. (Scotland)

TartanDMs · 24/09/2020 20:59

I got my kids ones from www.etsy.com/uk/shop/lindyloucrafts23 after a recommendation here. They go from age 2 up to 12 and then have various adult sizes as well. They are really good value and arrive quickly - I will be buying more.

LetsPlayAGame20 · 24/09/2020 22:41

Superdrug have some Kids ones. 2 99
My 2 yr old insists on wearing one when I do, altho loses interest after about 5 min and takes off. Its too big for her but definitely woild fit your age dcs

glueandstick · 24/09/2020 22:45

@goose1964 I think I may know your local lady- the description of the ‘ninja masks’ rings a bell...
