As the title says really, my dad is off to uni this week and I am worried about her getting Covid so want to pack her supplies she might need. Obviously got paracetamol but what else? Cough sweets?
Thank you

thermometer
ibuprofen to alternate with paractamol if temperature isn't coming down
something like olbas oil to put in a bowl of hot water and breathe in

Thermometer, finger oximeter (for reassurance if she does feel ill), menthol vapour rub, easy food and drink (pot noodles, cup a soups, microwave meals, stuff to put on toast, some of those cheap coffee sachets with whitener and sugar if she drinks those and some squash), baby wipes for easy cleaning if she feels a bit grotty.

I’d also make sure she had justeat, gogetters and a supermarket app set up on her phone (maybe one of those linked to your bank if you afford it) so she can use them if needed.

Some easy to make foods (dried/ microwave)in case she has to isolate, disinfectant spray, spare masks, make sure phone etc has plenty of credit etc

Will she have her own kettle? Do make sure she had mugs and cutlery too.

Vitamin D3, I'd say 4,000 IU capsules. Very important to take this as a preventative. Can't understand why the govt isn't pushing this!

Big bottle of cordial- it can make you very thirsty and you need to drink lots to protect your kidneys.

Throat pastilles- you can get a very sore throat.

Mouthwash - you can get a really foul taste in your mouth.

Things to stave off boredom - chances are she'll only be mildly ill and this may be her biggest problem. Also useful if she needs to self isolate.

Immunity supplements:

Vitamin D3 (around 3000 - 4000 iu per day. This is the level required for optimum immunity. The old RDAs and the amounts in multivits are merely enough to prevent rickets/osteomalacia, the immune system requires much higher amounts than the bones). Try to get one that also contains K2 as it works synergistically with D3. There's strongly emerging peer reviewed evidence that this is both a good prophylaxis and treatment for covid.
Vitamin C (around 500mg per day)
Zinc (around 50mg every couple of days, take everyday if exposed to cases)

If you've still got time and a health shop near you that sell them, Sambucol.

DO NOT send her with her own kettle unless the hall allows it

lljkk · 25/09/2020 16:35

ha! I'm worried about mine not able to come home for Xmas. Told him to pack accordingly. Ibuprofen etc. he can buy there.

TBH I suspect by Christmas the North and South pole will have flipped so it will all be fine Grin

Some sort of hobby to learn, like teach yourself crochet book, wool and hook or origami paper

Does she have her own bathroom? What about a kitchen?

Antibac spray for the shower and flip flops if shared.

Latex gloves so if she has to share a kitchen she isn't touching anything.

Talk to the uni about a kettle, electricals have to be PAT tested, some unis will PAT test for students others will only allow the a kettle they have provided. Also ask what their plan is for self isolation.

One of those huge bottles of water in case she is isolating without a kitchen / bathroom.

Agree with thermometer and pulse ox, it's not a bad idea to track those on a daily basis.

Extra bed linen and fit it to the bed, so the bed has two sheets on and the duvet has two covers, if you are ill (with anything) a clean bed is wonderful but you don't have the energy to change it. Just stripping off a duvet cover and sheet is doable and you will have fresh underneath.

A message board, portable white board and marker, it can be stuck on the outside of the door with blue tack and dd can write messages to flatmates eg "Day one self isolating, I'll use the kitchen at 12.00 - 12.30 leave me a note if not convenient"

I'd personally also send some small wrapped presents, if she has to self isolate she can open one every other day, if not then she can open them at Xmas.

Oh and don't forget sanitary towels / tampons.
