For iPhones at least, not sure about Android yet.

My postcode is ‘medium risk’ apparently...

Unless you have a huawei Hmm

NothingIsWrong · 23/09/2020 23:07

My phone says it won't run it because there is at restriction on it? It's a new iPhoneSE so not sure what that would be

Augustbreeze · 23/09/2020 23:10

@Snozzlemaid thanks but my phone says it's up to date - iOS 12.4.8. The app said it needed 13.something......?

FatGirlShrinking · 23/09/2020 23:14

I have the iPhone SE 1st generation and its on IOS 14 as of the weekend just gone when there was a big software update.

ArthurMorgan · 23/09/2020 23:14

It's on the play store as well

There is an interactive map here where you can see what your area is like and enter postcodes etc.

High risk area, no surprise!
Downloaded for Android.

I updated my 6s at the weekend to 14.0.
Is it definitely a 6s you've got?

middleager · 23/09/2020 23:27

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

Can someone explain what it does?
Me too. Why do I need this app?

Still not sure I need or want this..

LizzieSiddal · 23/09/2020 23:33

My area also says it is Medium. In our county we’ve had 5 cases this week.Hmm

LizzieSiddal · 23/09/2020 23:33

Sorry, not County but council area.

Char2015 · 24/09/2020 04:06

Is it just me or are the Government not making a big song and dance about this app - I really haven't heard too much about it and was half expecting some big launch to get everyone they can to download it especially given how big this was going to be and how much it was going to help track and trace? Maybe i'm being paranoid here but their quietness seems to be that they are not confident about it?

LaBelleSauvage123 · 24/09/2020 06:22

According to that map my area is white (0-2 cases) and surrounded by a sea of white, with just one light blue (3-9 cases) in a next door area. Does that make us medium risk?? 🤔. Tbh I’m behaving as if I’m at risk all the time, but it seems a bit odd.

ScottishDream · 24/09/2020 06:28

Not convinced it will be of use to me. I work in a school and will be within 2-4 meters for over an hour with up to 150 different people a day.
Can’t see me being sent home if a student gets a positive test.

If a child gets a positive result then the school will decide if you need to self isolate or not. You can always turn off the app while at school and turn it back on again for the rest of your day to day business
TimeForLunch · 24/09/2020 06:37

I have been using this app for a few weeks now as part of the trial. My postcode area was always showing as low risk until yesterday evening when it changed to medium risk. I wonder if they've changed it now so that medium is the minimum level. Is anyone's area showing on the app as low risk?

mosscarpet · 24/09/2020 06:50

hmm interesting. So an alert telling someone to self isolate is triggered using an algorithm. Well, given the governments track record on algorithms judging by the GCSE and A Level results fiasco I think it may be safer to make my own judegements!!
Also, cant see how I could use it. I work for NHS and visit a lot of patients at home. I would have my phone with me at these times.Sometimes 2M distance is not possible, but I am wearing full PPE. Therefor would not be required to self isolate as it stands if a patient tested positive. But there seems to be no option in the app for specifying you were wearing PPE? Therefor potentially I could be often asked to self isolate every time a patient tests positive if the pt had the app on their phone- yeah right, work will love that !!

lljkk · 24/09/2020 06:56

required to use it at my swimming pool, apparently. Must check in.
I presume checking in will become mandatory at lots of places. I wonder how the 7am swimmers are managing, since it was impossible to download yesterday without activation code used in the pilot areas.

So now there's a phone theft risk every time I go swimming since we can't lock our stuff up while in the water.

I already know my area is low risk, lowest prevalence in England.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 24/09/2020 06:56

@mosscarpet I read you should toggle contact tracing off when you are in PPE or behind a screen etc

Yetiyoga · 24/09/2020 06:56

My area says medium. But cases are fairly low. I wonder if it is to scare people ?

8thplace · 24/09/2020 07:00

I've downloaded app on Google play this morning and it asks for a code, says its only for Isle of White and Newham residents. Can't get beyond this.

lljkk · 24/09/2020 07:03

omg, but it says "risk level medium" for my area! Same prevalence that we've had for weeks.

Bollocks, so obviously "medium" truly is the new "lowest tier" possible.

Note my area test availability statistics. It is not very difficult to get tests here, either, according to the Times test of all areas. So lack of tests is not relatively important here.
