School bubble has ‘burst’ how likely are we to get it?

My partner works in a secondary school, a child tested positive and the bubble has been sent home. He’s not in that particular bubble, but I’m now convinced he’s brought it home with him/will bring it home with him. I feel sure we had it in March, but obviously the jury is out on whether you can get it again.
He wears a visor in the classroom. He also does some personal care with a student and so wears gloves, an apron and a face mask when doing so.

Do I need to be concerned? I’m overweight, I guess bordering on obese going by my BMI, so I’m quite worried.

I'm confused, your partner isn't or is in the bubble that burst?

No one can really tell you if you'll get it or not. You just need to take the usual precautions and try not to worry about it.

Visors though surely won't help prevent transmission in schools? Surely a mask would be better? Visors just stop splatter eg if someone coughs in your face.

Visors dont help much.
Hopefully he wont get it as it sounds like another bubble

He does wear a mask in the corridor and when walking around the school.

No as not in the child's bubble

NotAKaren · 23/09/2020 15:43

Highly unlikely, while there are cases in schools very few incidents I am aware of that have spread from to others at school. Also sounds like your DH was not in contact with this particular case.

KitKatastrophe · 23/09/2020 16:05

Probably not. But there's no point in worrying about will he or wont he, just wait and see. Even if you're obese the vast majority of people who get it are fine.

Keepdistance · 23/09/2020 16:15

Lots of cases have spread mainly among school staff (though could be the case children have no symptoms) at least 30% in wales.
Several schools ive seen have 4 teachers with it in uk

If your husband's a teacher then I think you're pretty like to get it. I work in a school and I've accepted that it's inevitable. I'm in a crowded classroom exposed to 100 plus children a day and social distancing is impossible.

Scweltish · 23/09/2020 16:20

So he’s not even in the child’s bubble? From what I’ve seen so far, even if he was in the bubble chances are he’ll be fine

There's a misunderstanding about secondary bubbles and teachers.

Secondary school teachers are not included in the bubbles of the classes that they teach. As such, several teachers will have been teaching the children who have tested positive and those who are now isolating. However, those teachers will not be told to isolate as they should have maintained a 2m distance from all children at all times (even though that's not actually possible in most settings).

In primary, it's different. There is no expectation of maintaining a 2m distance and so staff are included in the bubble.

Secondary teachers don't tend to be in bubbles, the staffing doesn't work like that - teachers have to move around all year groups. Obviously if he's not taught that class then he's less likely to have caught it now but realistically, once it's in the school it's going to spread - that's what happens in schools. I'm a teacher and chose to start my maternity leave early rather than risk it, but if I weren't pregnant I'd just be accepting that I'd get it sooner or later, that's just the nature of schools.

4 cases at my school. One in a class I teach. We are not sending whole classes never mind bubbles home. Just having to get on with it.
