Quarantine and school attendance

It's probably been discussed but I couldn't find it on here.

What trumps what with regards to the law?

If a family takes their child away over Oct half term and they need to Quarantine afterwards(say they went to Spain or France etc), legally they HAVE to Quarantine, but, they also legally HAVE to send their child to school.

Which law prevails??

Theres a quarantine absence code that the school uses

The quarantine takes precedent, but honestly unless the trip is to a country that wasn't on the quarantine list at the time of departure the parents deserve the fine as they had purposely chosen to prioritise going on holiday over schooling.

From examples at our local schools the school will not allow a child in who is supposed to self isolate as per law/guidelines. The head has actually had to turn someone away already.

It's an interesting one though isn't it. So many people are screaming and shouting that schools can't close (even for a week or 2) because of the impact on education yet many are prepared to take them away with then having to quarantine.

I doubt fines would or could be issued though if that is your question, although I can see things being more strict next year. Contact the school and ask.

We got a letter yesterday stating that:

Any child returning from abroad who then has to quarantine due to a sudden change in the guidance: Stay at home and no further action.

Any child returning from abroad where the guidance to quarantine on return was ALREADY in place before departure. Stay at home but will be treated in line with the school absence policy.

I think this is fair. Don't take mine abroad anyway but this stood out to me.

I'm not planning on going away but it's been a subject of discussion at our school.

Lots of people saying how they "deserve" a break and don't see why the Quarantine should apply to them..🙄

We've not had anything formal come out yet though.

I dont think that's fair as the parents should be able to prove they booked before the guidance changed.
