@givemeanother I've been on a variety of supplements over the past 3 months, as I've been working with a naturopath and aims are to build up the gut (immune system)
Then went on a low histamine diet in early Nov
Started taking 2 x10mg loratidine around 23rd Nov
Started Niacin (Nicotinic acid) around 28th Nov, building from 100mg to 300mg daily

TiddleTaddleTat · 07/12/2020 22:11

Also started quercetin around 23rd Nov

MillStone · 08/12/2020 11:27

Hello all, hope everyone is coping okay.

New Run DMC to those that haven't seen it

TiddleTaddleTat · 08/12/2020 12:18

@MillStone fascinating stuff, thanks for posting
How are you getting on?

MillStone · 08/12/2020 14:30

Hi @TiddleTaddleTat hope you’re okay. Great to read you’re in the up!

Okay here thanks. 1st apt with naturopath was great. Feeling very positive.

Run DMC movie was good wasn’t it. None the wiser but the plot thickens. Suspect he’s working on a vaccine vs LC movie which should be interesting.

Whatnext2018 · 08/12/2020 14:51

@TiddleTaddleTat So good to hear you’re showing improvement 💐 how much Niacin are you on a day (or anyone else)? I started 100mg per day a few days ago

givemeanother · 08/12/2020 14:52

@AndsLee managed to persuade the GP to prescribe me Famotidine today...you felt that's made quite a difference to you didn't you?

Can people share their top low histamine meals...it seems so restrictive I need some ideas!

givemeanother · 08/12/2020 17:36

I've come to the sudden realisation that my chest and back pain is trapped gas...not acid reflux. The very worst episodes I've had are combined with gas the other end too...and I'm forever belchy (sorry TMI).

Now I need to figure out why. Have I developed an intolerance to a certain food? Is my breathing so dysfunctional that I swallow too much air? Any mast cell theories that would explain this - I don't have the itching or rashes that some of you have, but could I have the histamine intolerance causing gas build up?

And I do have fatigue and mid joint pains...that's got to be something else other than gas build up, right?

I feel I've made an important realisation but still don't know the best way to treat it...

TiddleTaddleTat · 08/12/2020 17:44

@MillStone glad to hear that about the naturopath! Hope you see some positive results. They just seem to 'get it'. I really do appreciate the body as such an equisite balance of systems and I feel naturopathy is helpful in understanding that.

@Whatnext2018 glad to hear you're in the B3 club ! I started with 100mg a day then after a couple of days increased to 200mg, and now on 300mg-350mg per day

@givemeanother oh no! I do find this too with some foods, although I don't know if I had this before and just didn't really pay attention or if it's a new sensitivity. I'm already not able to eat gluten but have recently had to eliminate corn for this reason, which is annoying as it's in pretty much all ' gluten free' substitutes. Oats also give me issues, even if GF.
I have noticed too that I feel nauseous after eating eggs and have had histamine reactions from dairy. It's a bummer and I'm still eating small quantities of both as I just can't restrict my diet any further.

TiddleTaddleTat · 08/12/2020 18:53

@givemeanother I hear you on the boring food front. I'll tell you something that has helped me-
Ordered a bunch of glass for storage boxes
Pack up a few with chopped low histamine vegetables, freeze
Then I Chuck one in the freezer and add frozen white fish - cod or haddock.

Whatnext2018 · 08/12/2020 19:46

@TiddleTaddleTat My bottle says 100mg once per day 🤔
Is this the right stuff?

Whatnext2018 · 08/12/2020 19:47

This one 🤷🏻‍♀️

TiddleTaddleTat · 08/12/2020 20:06

@Whatnext2018 that's the one I have, but am take three a day one with each meal. The RDA / dosage written on the packet is a general guide but the theory on long covid being NAD+ depletion means higher doses are needed. Best to check withGP about your personal circumstances if concerned.

Whatnext2018 · 08/12/2020 20:21

@TiddleTaddleTat Ok great, I might try try two for a few days now and see what happens..
What else do you take? Are you on quercetin also? I’ve not got that one yet,
I have Vit D 4000, C, zinc, magnesium, niacin, iron omega 3

TiddleTaddleTat · 08/12/2020 20:39

Yep, quercetin, vit C, D, zinc, iron

Whatnext2018 · 08/12/2020 21:06

It says selenium too, is everyone on that?

So many supplements we’re all on 🙈
I don’t know whether to drop Tumeric for example now or keep going with all the same ones. Before all this I only ever took Magnesium because I’m naturally a little low, all else was good, I didn’t bother with vitamins!

Whatapickle78 · 08/12/2020 22:50

Hello all - I’m taking the non flush niacin currently as I bought the wrong one! It says 1-2 a day so I’m taking at breakfast and dinner. I’m waiting for the flushing one in the post... it’s a lower dose. Mine are 500mg per tablet currently.

All so confusing!

Whatapickle78 · 08/12/2020 22:53

Hard to tell if anything is working right now as I have a stinking cold Sad and generally got quite a lot going on stress-wise so have been feeling very low and knackered.

I was though, until the cold arrived feeling on the up.

It will be interesting to see how we all get on with these new supplements!

Xx

Whatnext2018 · 08/12/2020 23:37

How do we know which is flushing and non flushing 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈
Mine are only 100mg as I posted above, I’ve no idea if these are the right ones

Whatapickle78 · 09/12/2020 07:40

@Whatnext2018 the non flushing ones say they are non flushing on the front label. And are three times the price!

Whatnext2018 · 09/12/2020 08:57

@Whatapickle78 Oh that will be the giveaway then, ha ha! Mine are a reasonable price and 100mg but I don’t think I flushed 🤷🏻‍♀️

fedupofbed · 09/12/2020 10:57

Hi everyone, just to recap the 'flushing' Niacin is nicotinic acid. There have been two articles doing the rounds, one suggesting nicotinic acid, the other non flushing Niacin. In the latest Run-DMC video though (thanks for sharing @MillStone ) he also seems to advocate the nicotinic acid, but suggests taking an aspirin with the non flushing version if you're using that 🤷🏼‍♀️.

@Whatapickle78 let us know how the non flushing version goes...

fedupofbed · 09/12/2020 11:47

Also, apologies if it's already been discussed down thread but how much Quercetin is everyone taking? Just read recommendation of 500g 3 x a day - I've just been taking 1 a day.

Hope your cold improves soon @Whatapickle78 xx

givemeanother · 09/12/2020 11:51

Feeling more positive today in viewing this as an intolerance issue. Explains so many of the symptoms. So from today I am back on antihistamine, quercetin, flushing niacin, vit c, d, turmeric, and hopefully also collecting Famotidine from pharmacy later.

I will try way lower histamine foods, but doubt I can fully follow the diet wholly. I've definitely had periods where I can eat foods higher in histamine with no issues, but it makes sense that it builds up and then explodes.

I've also read that osteogen releases histamine, and progesterone lowers. Would it be crazy to try the progesterone-only contraceptive pill? I've been meaning to sort out my contraception anyway!

Whatapickle78 · 09/12/2020 12:00

Hi @fedupofbed thanks for clarifying! It’s v confusing. I will have a watch of the Run DMC video today.

I am taking quercetin twice a day (breakfast/dinner) it’s the Solgar one too. I’ve been taking this for a while now and I did notice a difference in lesser fatigue as a result ( though this could obv be lots of other things too...) I’ve heard so many specialists recommend quercetin now I’m pretty sold on the fact that it must do something good.

Hope you’re all doing ok today. Xx
