Talk me down that the expectation of civil unrest isn’t fucking sinister?

It's not a new phenomenon, stop stressing. It just releases police to dealt with other matters.

BF2748 · 22/09/2020 23:32

I think it’s because there has been more
Protests from different organisations over the last few months and with more planned I feel they’re trying to deter people from doing so, legally they can’t say people can’t protest so it’s probably the next best thing they can say.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 23/09/2020 07:35

Surely it’s so they can protect places to free up the police, police use a lot of manpower protecting power stations, parliament etc and while doing that they can’t be making sure the laws are being followed .

Stradivari · 23/09/2020 08:44

Actually when the gov invokes MACA powers (military aid to civil authorities), the military backfill policing and security jobs to free up their manpower for policing most of the time. Tis not quite as drastic as it seems and is something reasonably frequently done. This would be an extension of Op TEMPERER, where military deployed to guard more isolated locations so the police could police more populated areas.

They only mean toreplace armed police outside No 10, and other places. Not standing around with guns corralling the public.

Some posters seem to actively relish the thought of 'civil unrest' Hmm

I agree. There does seem to be a small number of people who just can't wait for it to kick off.
Hollywhiskey · 23/09/2020 09:13

It just means the military would do some guard duties and office work for the police so the police can do policing.
Armed police in central London is nothing new, including at Parliament.

anotherpersontoday · 23/09/2020 09:14

The military are just freeing up the police from certain roles. We don't have a big enough Army or Police force for the ort of scary military/police state some are worried about.

You might see a military vehicle in your town but its more likely to be delivering PPE to your local hospital than to be deploying troops on the street.

awesomeaircraft · 23/09/2020 09:25

That reminds me of the March fake news of the army outside London to implement surprise London lockdown, including photos of unsuspecting army cadets on the streets.

Army personnel don't do policing that's why they have the military police.
