Yoga classes??

I happened to go to a yoga class yesterday (haven't been for 8 years).
You wear a mask to go in, and (because it was my first time there) to have a chat with the instructor (hers was under her nose mostly).
Then go in to the studio that wasn't a lot bigger than my living room , there was just enough room for 6 mats, masks off and on we go!
I don't quite understand how all this deep breathing for 1.5hours in a smallish room (no air con) with 5 other strangers is ok and allowedHmm
In any case I won't be going back but do others still go to yoga? Does it seem reasonable?

Yoga classes??

I think in an indoor space with multiple people with no ventilation then it doesn’t matter if you’re 2m apart? Surely all the air particles will be circulating. You are in there for an hour all breathing in the same air?

I’ve decided against running my large group class as I just don’t feel it’s safe to have 11/12 people indoors together for an hour.

@Rollawayyourstone pretty sure you aren’t supposed to sing in baby classes. I’ve been to a couple of outdoor ones and we weren’t allowed to, the instructor played songs on her phone instead.

I also think we’re told to wear masks in supermarkets and on public transport. Yet I only spend 20 minutes or so in a shop.

But it’s ok not to wear them in a hall with loads of people exercising?

I’m a yoga teacher and I have gone back to one venue only - the others were too small to distance safely. Technically I can get 16 in with 2m distancing, but I have limited to 10 (plus me). All booking taken in advance, so I know who’s coming. Everyone brings their own stuff, windows open, hand sanitiser, one way system, everything cleaned before and after classes, masks worn all the times apart from during the actual class......not sure what else I could do?

It’s easy to dismiss something and say it should remain closed when it is not your livelihood that is affected. Zoom is shit - lots of people hate it. Yoga is good for your body and good for your mental health.

@littlepeas I agree online is no good. My teacher does a YouTube class, I want to support her because it's her livelihood but I just hate it and consequently don't do it much.

Online is funny. I find some of my clients don’t like it. And I understand that as I actually don’t like them for myself.
Some really love them though. They like that they get to do it in their own home, that they can turn their camera off and hide a bit. I was going to stop my Zoom Pilates class but it’s busier than ever. Maybe different to You Tube as it’s live and you have to sign up.

I haven't been to yoga but my gym has marks on the floor for mats or "stations". All classes are on your own "spot" so no running around the room type ones. Classes, gym and swim all have to be pre-booked and timeslots are staggered so there's fewer people moving through the building at any one time. There's separate exits using the fire escape for the gym and studios so only swimmers leave through the main entrance. Gym equipment has been moved to create more space and some is out of use to ensure distance between people. Hand sanitiser everywhere, all staff wearing masks (apart from lifeguards once they're in the high chair), spots on the floor to queue to wait for access to the gym / studios.
Yes there's a risk but it appears to have been minimised as much as they can and right now my mental and physical wellbeing is going to be shot to pieces if I don't go!

I’m in a similar position OP. I had signed up to online antenatal classes but they then changed to in person. 12 heavily pregnant people in a room for an hour and a half doing gentle yoga and learning about birth labour. Yes they say they’ll be 2m apart but I’m just not comfortable going in person after yesterday’s announcements so think I’m going to have to cancel.

I’ve frozen my gym membership as my main activity was classes such as yoga and I’ve found Amazon videos pretty good and actually less stressful than the rather cliquey atmosphere at my gym classes. I’ve been riding my bike and walking more for exercise and apart from missing the extras such as the sauna which are currently closed am not sure if I will go back at all. At the moment it’s definitely not worth the risk for me.

I can't wait for this Covid thing to be over.. Cancelled classes because of lockdowns, closed studios, distance, masks, sanitizers, booking in advance because of classes with fewer people. It's just so complicated. Can't wait for things to be back to the way they used to be.
